Rainy day here in NW Arkansas also. Hopefully it will clear out in time for the Springfield game tonight.

This is a big year for Oviedo and I’m intrigued to see how he handles Palm Beach. He had a good second half last year, albeit with the walk rate still being too high. If he controls the ball a bit better, he could put up the kind of year that would make him a legit prospect for 2020.

Yes, Cabrera is in the pen. Hauschild is the fifth starter.

Situations change over time. Since we last discussed Cabrera in depth, it was before MLB and minor league spring training camps. Much more info is now known. When I saw him on the back fields, he did not dominate, but maybe it was not his best day.

The move in part could be to put Cabrera on the fast track to become the second lefty in the St. Louis pen. I still imagine if he had pitched better, he would have kept starting, though. Players often separate themselves.

Parsons must have impressed during ST. Nice move up from Johnson City to get the pill for opening night. At 23, he’ll need to step it up to reach Palm Beach this season. Same for Chris Hunt.

Gorman turns 19 May 5th… Herrera a month later, June 1st. Brady Whalen finally reached 21! Installed at first base batting 3rd. This needs to be a breakout season for the 6′-4″ switch hitter. He hasn’t lived up to his potential up until now.

Palm Beach has five players on the IL maybe because its close to our Jupiter facilities. Gregerson is also rehabbing on the PB roster. DellaValle is making the big jump to adv-A, got to keep an eye on him.

Well, I got my hard copies of the rosters and my calendar is filled in for all our affiliates, so I’m ready to go.

Even without Torres, Peoria’s lineup looks pretty darn good, and full of top prospects.

My pick for player of the day is O’Keefe. Now that is going out on a limb. Pitcher of the day, Parsons. I’ll have to make sure I paid for MILBTV.

Oviedo with a decent first start at Palm Beach…4-1/3 IP with no walks and 6 Ks.

Early on in Peoria and the offense is humming. 6-0 in the 3rd with the bases juiced and nobody out. Ivan Herrera has a big fly so far.

I started with Peoria and jumped to Memphis.

And a public service message from a former Cards minor leaguer…

Vegas, Robinson was apparently optioned some time today but I don’t think he’s active for tonight.

Good eye, vegas, but I count 26 players including Robinson. 13 pitchers and 13 hitters. That does not compute.

Update: Yes, he was optioned, but apparently not yet active.

Peoria is locked and loaded with that lineup. They looked really good tonight with a lot of power. Up 10-2 in the 8th.

Conner Greene looks like he figured out how to throw strikes while not issuing a ton of walks. Unfortunately, he is no longer in the Cards system.

Update on Genesis Cabrera. Though he is listed among available relievers, he is scheduled to follow Ryan Helsley in a piggyback start on Saturday and pitch multiple innings. So it seems a permanent change has not yet been made, after all.

Conner Greene is also.back in AA so.it is debatable what he has figured out.
