Seems odd for most of the minor leagues to take most of the week off this week.

Full-season minor league baseball stopped for the entire All-Star break. Everyone plays tonight (Friday).

What is really, really sad is that since MLB took over the minors, they got rid of all the minor league All-Star Games. Probably saved the owners a few bucks to help offset their lawsuit settlement for underpaying their players.

This is sad why? Nobody pays attention to the MLB all-star game. Give affiliate guys some time off to go home for a few days. I’m pretty sure that they would rather have the time off than play in an ASG.

Ny, I respectfully disagree. I have spoken with a number of minor leaguers over the years who were very proud to be recognized as league all-stars. Further, the cities that get to host the games often make a big deal out of them.

All the other players not chosen, the vast majority of them, get time off anyway. But again, the vast majority don’t have the money to fly home for just two or three days, anyway.

32 year old Aaron Brooks had a 6.18 ERA for Baltimore last season. Why is he on the Memphis roster?

Any suggestions for replacing him? He’s the best we got at this moment. He and Thomas are the only two starters that have pitched regularly for MEM. He’s a filler but is having a pretty decent July.

Really interesting timing as Brooks as an ERA of 0.47 in three starts this month. One earned run in 19 1/3 innings. 21 strikeouts against two walks.

He is currently in the running for our Pitcher of the Month award across the entire system.
