How is an ERA of 6.00 for the night “brilliant”?

Good catch Brian. But it does call to mind Liberatore’s 6 point something ERA for the year so far, which does not seem to be concerning to anyone that I have seen. Let’s hope for a good showing in today’s start.

On the Bernie show yesterday afternoon, I noted Liberatore had one good start with two so-so ones sandwiched around it. I also mentioned he has already given up four homers and has a .304 batting average against so isn’t close to being ready to help StL yet. I then commented that Woodford is MIA and Oviedo has had only one good start so I am not sure who the #6 starter is right now.

Once I retire I hope to take better advantage of the content provided by TCN and BW. Anyway, I had been looking into the rotation depth situation lately also. Guys like Thompson and Oviedo, who might have been penciled in have been unimpressive also. Zeuch on the 40 man looks bad. Of them all, Liberatore is the one everyone wrote in ink, so is the most concerning. And I assume Woodford is not presently able to slide over if need be for some reason. It could be argued we are on thin ice.

Memphis’s Zeuch might get one more start… he’s been terrible. There are some other starters that haven’t been effective and may be on thin ice as well. The rotations will be thinned out and that will help keep the line moving. We have a couple of young arms that need to be challenged.

Hey why not, CC. I don’t know what to think of these guys who show up in STL with a funny looking progression through the minors. At least they aren’t wearing out their arm before they get here.

So what is going on with Woodford? If Marmol and the staff have no confidence in him why not just send him to Memphis to get some work? Is he out of options? Sitting out in the Stl bullpen isn’t doing him or the organization any good.

It’s time to shuffle some minor league starters. Move Zeuch and Leahy to the pen, Add Rondon to the rotation, give guys like Gragg and Perreira starts, and challenge Mcgreevy and Graceffo (And Rodriguez somewhere down the road) at Springfield.

I would guess McGreevy & Gracefo will get promoted somewhere between their 5th & 10th starts. They’ve had three so far.

Great start by Liberatore today. 7 innings, 2 hits allowed, no walks, 9 Ks. Walsh closed out the 8-0 win with 2 scoreless innings. I see both of these helping the big club at some time this year.

Conversely, Springfield is getting it royally handed to them in the 5th by Tulsa today by the unsightly score of 13-0. Robles and Black have been absolutely shelled, while we’re still in search of our first hit. Still relatively early though.

Robles and Black have been absolutely shelled

Black gave up 4 hits and a walk in 1 inning, so yeah, he was shelled. But all 6 runs he gave up were unearned, so his game ERA was 0.00. Its hard to pitch around multiple errors, but you have to be able to stop the bleeding. One of the errors was by Walker, who has quite a few here in the early going. System wide, we are holding our own, except Springfield which is in last place. I have been trying to follow along, reading the game capsules here and daily box scores, hoping and praying the system is turning it around after last year’s dreadful results.

For those who didn’t know, all of the scores in our game recaps are hot links to the box score at MiLB.com – so you don’t have to go multiple places to get additional game detail. It is all right here.

It got so bad last year I stopped Reading the daily reports and box scores. Was too depressing

I did the same, CC. Or I’d just scan quickly to see if some of our high level guys did anything (Gorman, Walker, Winn, Libby, etc). I’m glad things are looking rosier this year so far. Feels like there are close to 20 “must see” guys in the system and another few dozen guys who feel like they have a punchers chance to make the big league club one day.
