Gorman with yet another HR, but also 3 Ks. Oviedo with a solid outing in the Memphis win.

Masyn Winn is looking primed for a promotion…he’s hitting .469 right now and has a double and triple on the night.

Escobar had what is a career long outing. I wonder if he should be tried as a starter?

And Gorman has 7 homers, but the Ks are piling up.

Last year was a slog to follow the minor league teams with how bad they were, but it’s generally been enjoyable to read the daily recaps here at TCN. Hopefully the clubs continue to improve and we see prospects keep playing well.

Masyn Winn has 3 triples and 2 doubles in 9 games, to go along with 4-4 in steal attempts. The kid isn’t quite putting em over the fence yet, but he has some wheels. One could imagine him vaulting into top 100 lists this year to replace Gorman when he’s called up. There’s a lot to get excited about on the position player side of things in the system.

I know it totally goes against the grain, but I would bring the kid(Winn) up until the end of the month, while we have the two extra roster spots available. Lead him off and give PDJ a little not so well deserved R&R. Since our powers that be are mysteriously adverse to batting Edman first and Carlson hasn’t put on his batting gloves yet this year, our Birds are in dire need of some leadoff production. Give young Masyn a taste of the show. And who knows, maybe something really exciting will happen. If not, then just send him back on down to continue his schooling. I have never bought into the thinking that bringing a player up to the show too early could potentially ruin a player. If their psych is that fragile, then they didn’t have what it takes in the first place to be a MLer. And you know what else? Plucking a player such as Masyn out of the lower rungs would help keep everyone on their toes. Dig in there and kick some major butt and grandiose things can happen….. whether you’re in Peoria or Memphis.

Pugs, I believe Winn is a little too far away from the majors right now. Plus, they would have to add him to the 40 man and remove someone else.

Yes, with PDJ struggling, they need to start Sosa a couple of times per week.

And yes, with Carlson struggling and Edman hot, they need to be flipped in the order. Also need to start giving Nootbaar some starts.

I don’t know if injuries are involved, but Memphis fielded a B lineup last night. I know players have to be rested as well. I feel that their best lineup would be these players:

    3B Donovan
    2b Gorman
    Lf Burleson
    1B Yepez
    DH Baker
    C Herrera
    Rf Capel
    SS Mendoza
    Cf Hurst/Deluzio

Although I am hopeful that Gomez continues to rake, and gets promoted in the next month or so, and supplants Hurst or Capel.

I wonder how long McGreevy and Graceffo will be given at Peoria before they get a shot to move to Springfield? Both are getting the job done, in slightly different ways. Neither are walking much of anyone, good to great K rates, with McGreevy keeping the ball on the ground and Graceffo more of a fly ball pitcher. Should be fun to watch.

Still not sure of what the Cards see in Leahy? His results the last 2 years are pretty awful.

There’s potentially one maybe two spots in the Springfield.

McGREEVY GSs 3 starts avg 70.3
GRACEFFO GSs 3 starts avg 71.3

Both pitched lights out last night but the Peoria pen coughed up 2 runs in each of the extra innings games and the Chiefs lost 2 by one run to our old nemesis Cedar Rapids. Grrrr.

Yep, talk about the pen letting you down. You’re not gonna get swept in too many doubleheaders with those two on the mound. I like the ability to stay in the zone and still miss bats. They’re two to watch go through the system for sure.

Graceffo – .50 WHIP with 11.8 K/9 is very exciting.

Cards are going to need SP this year and definitely 2023. Pallante has looked great in the pen, but hopeful he gets a shot to start at some point.

Reminder why you should read our game recaps.

MiLB.com: “Reliever Angel Rondon was brilliant in his longest relief appearance of the 2022 season. The right-hander struck out five in 3-plus innings of work and did not allow a run between the third and fifth innings.”

TCN: “Angel Rondon relieved in the third and walked in a run before fanning the side.  He was pulled after a solo home run and a walk to open the sixth. The right-hander allowed two earned runs in his three-plus innings.”

How is an ERA of 6.00 for the night “brilliant”?

This is what you get when teams report on themselves.
