What’s going on with Doyle? Not the 1 or 2 starter for any of the affiliates. I’ve been under a rock I guess…

CFICT, I was wondering the same thing about Doyle. It seems odd he doesnt seem slated to pitch this weekend. Hopefully there isn’t anything physically wrong.

It’s nice to see the full season teams playing. A lot of prospects performed well last night. If Franklin can keep this up, he could zoom up the rankings. That cutter of his, along with his high octane fastball offer much promise.

Saturday, April 4’s Memphis Redbirds game against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A, Baltimore Orioles) has been postponed due to weather.

The game will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Sunday, April 5 with first pitch of game one scheduled for 1:05 p.m. CDT.

Watching Franklin and Cijntje (can we find a good nickname that is easy to spell for him?) was definitely a rush. Both seemed farther along than I had anticipated. I’d think they would limit Franklin’s innings pretty seriously this year, ramp up some next year, so 2028 as the earliest? But to my eyeball,s Cijntje, at least while pitching right-handed, seemed like he could make AAA this year and be available in the big leagues next. I’ve heard enough hype on Dohm that I am particularly looking forward to his first appearance.

10-1 start is hopefully a sign of things to come.

I think we should remember coming into the season Doyle had 1 pro IP under his belt. Positioning as a 1 or 2 starter in AA would have been precipitous. If all goes well, he should be there soon. Doyle’s draft mate, Franklin, only had 6 IP coming in, so it will be interesting to see how his usage a level down compares.

Someone missed Cho’ 3 SBs in the Chiefs opening night in Cedar Rapids

Only 2,500 in attendance in Memphis on a nice Friday evening. So little support for the 7up 0down Redbirds. The Organization should be looking for greener pastures. Memphis is a mess.

The AA Springfield Cards drew 6,153 in Amarillo.

What I am remembering is that Franklin threw less than 50 innings last year, so they will be careful with him in 2026. Doyle threw about 100 last year.

I think the no. 1, 2, etc. starter thing can be overblown. That is on paper. I focus on what they do whenever they pitch.

The old days of organizations being able to change affiliate cities every two years are over. The agreements are now 10 years in duration.

We didn’t miss it. He stole no. 4 on Saturday. Not sure where this is coming from, but it is good to see.

I wonder how much CF Cho will play with the younger Peete also there. Cordoba is also there, but he has to be about out of runway by now unless I am confused.

The attendance for Memphis doesn’t really matter to STL and is purely a Memphis Redbirds problem. Memphis is so convenient proximity wise to STL it makes sense to have them as AAA for quicker road trips on call-ups. But Memphis as a city is not great though.

I’m not in favor of Cinjtje continuing to throw both right and left handed. Maybe at the lower levels it might be okay to try it, but not when you get close to the big leagues.

“I’m not in favor of Cijntje continuing to throw both right- and left-handed. Maybe at the lower levels it might be okay to try it, but not when you get close to the big leagues.”

    Agreed, 27, absolutely.
Professionally, JC has been atrocious throwing southpaw style, walking 20 of 63 batters and whiffing only nine. All told, the OPS is over 1.100 against him as a lefty, so (small sample size or not) there’s zero indication that switch-pitching is a valid option going forward. In short, he’s a “switch-pitcher” like Larry Walker was a “switch-hitter.”

Which brings me to the good part: Jurrangelo was excellent against lefty batters the other night when throwing right-handed. They were just 1-for-11 (groundball single), no walks, three strikeouts swinging, and only one flyball out. Strikeouts, grounders, no walks: sounds good to me!

Hopefully this micro-sample reflects real improvement, as JC when throwing righty last season permitted lefty bats to slug an unacceptable .473 in 156 PA’s. If the young man can stay healthy and just be mediocre versus lefty hitters, he’ll be at least a #3 starter, since in righty/righty matchups he’s allowed a meager sub-.500 OPS as a pro.

I would be in favor of putting the AA affiliate back in Little Rock and converting Springfield to AAA.

Memphis has had a rough day pitching. Bedell issued 5 walks in the 6th inning alone and didn’t make it through the inning. Mautz started the game and hit 4 batters with pitches in an inning and 2/3. He also walked 4 in that same span. That was the end of his day.

In other news Shuster got called up today after Raquet got the DFA while Roycroft was optioned. I’m sure this is because the pen is already getting worn out and Shuster is stretched out.

Mautz issues have to do with the new ball perhaps?

I’m a bit confused by the Rincon promotion. I’d think right now the 5 starters at Memphis would be Fitts, Matthews, Dobbins, Mautz, and Zimmerman. Are they going to a 6-man rotation? Or is Rincon depth in case someone only goes an inning or two again? Or is one of the 5 being dropped from the rotation?

Crooks with another HR and 3 RBI hitting .375, Blaze Jordan with 2 more hits up to .467, Bryan Torres hitting .400 so far, Prieto also off to a good start at.452
    Bernal hitting .310

    Good start from Dobbins 5 1/3, 1 earned 5 hits and 7 K’s
Rincon pitched 2 IP in releif

Maybe if Crooks keeps hitting he gets promoted, since Pages and Pozo and Herrrera are off to slow starts and then Bernal could catch full time, he has been DH and 1B with a few games at catcher

Memphis wins 9-4 they are 9-1 on the year

Cho definitely been bumped off CF by Peete. But so far Cho is hitting and Peete isn’t.

Bling, I’d bet ya a wooden nickel they have Peete changing several things currently which isn’t helping “yet”. Fingers crossed he has a Joshua Baez(2025) 2nd half.
