858, if McG is a faberge egg, then maybe a few more seasons in the minors until we are good again? That’s manipulation too.

I’m not in that camp, but maybe minors followers have a better idea of when, and for how long he should be up.

If he could get a dozen starts by seasons end, it could help his development at mlb, unless he’s expected to mow down mlb.

25, the 26′ budget is the elephant in the room. Even if Bill gave us a number today, how many times would it change before opening day? 2mil spent in the last 16 months suggests he’s broke, so you may be right 🙃

Yep, the reset may just be resetting the payroll to align with market size. It’s been on a downward trajectory for at least 10 years anyway, at least compared to peers.

Anyway, I’d like to see a payroll bump to accommodate a better starter, through trade or free agency. But you are correct in that it very well may be BDW recouping his COVID losses.

With the CBA needing reworked after 26′, I’m not expecting us to acquire a multi-year commitment, for a SP that could pair with Gray for 2026.

A one year acquisition, allows patching SP2 in 2026, and then Gray has a club option after 2026. Maybe he stays, maybe he goes.

It’s been the lack of a rotation for many years now, as we’ve needed to acquire SP’rs at the deadlines. Until we fix that….. Your guess is better than mine!

I think the most significant signing this offseason will be another Maton-type deal. There’s reduced revenue from television. Attendance is poor, and that also cuts into Ballpark Village revenue. The CBA expires after next year which is another reason they will be cautious. If the rotation looks too lean they may do a one year deal with an inning eater. Otherwise there should be plenty of opportunity for their young guys to seize.

Donovan and Herrera are our two best hitters, followed closely by Burly. I wouldn’t trade any of the three unless we are now all of a sudden deciding to do a complete teardown. If Herrera can stay healthy I think he could put up MVP type numbers at some point.

Noot or Gorman should certainly be considered for trade. Donovan can play LF or 2B so we would have coverage.

by offensive war we are 17th in mlb at C and 3B. 19th at SS and 23rd in RF. The primaries of these positions are righty bats. If we have to rob from our lefty bat strength, we are only shuffling deck chairs, not improving, and it may happen soon.

Well our current primary in RF is Burly.

If we want to trade for pitching we will need to give something up. I think the team could survive without Noot or Gorman.

They survived without Albert Pujols…They’ll survive without Nootbar and Gorman.

I’d pump the breaks a tad on Noot. It has been rumored that he’s been playing hurt for several weeks now. I’m not talking 2 weeks either. I’m talking 6-8 weeks. Granted he’s been injury prone. Hopefully he can get rested and we can use him soon.

You don’t trade your current core of solid hitters.

Gorman, yes. Noot? Not yet. Unless it’s an offer we can’t refuse.

I don’t think Gorman or Nootbaar would yield much in trade value.

I’m not sure if Noot or Gorman would qualify as solid hitters. Streaky maybe.

Regardless if we want pitching we will need to trade someone to get it. We aren’t going to wade into FA and we currently only have one starting pitcher in AAA ready to come up.

Yah, Burly bailed put Walker in RF, and it’s still bad. Power of the lefty bats!
Sell ’em all if it brings a pitching staff. Until we can pitch it’s pretending.

I already knew it would be you who called it like it is.

I think Rincon and Henderson could be ready next year. Plesac should be cut, which would open another AAA starting spot. And depending how long Roby is out.

I would probably use Hence in the bullpen the rest of the year, if his injury isn’t severe. Maybe he makes it to AAA that way.

That seems optimistic considering neither have pitched in AAA yet. I was referring to minor league pitchers who would be ready to go in STL on opening day. Right now that is only McGreevy.

I’m just thinking both Rincon and Henderson may see action at AAA this year. Especially Henderson, as he has not had a hiccup at any level he has pitched at. Maybe you trade Gallen and hope gets back to form. You could trade from one asset we have, catching prospects.

I wonder if they might bring back Matz for a one year deal. You might get him on an incentive based contract. But only for 1 year.

I think 1TD is on to something with Hence’s injury issues being due to a nickname of “Tink”. It just sounds fragile. Let’s see him replace that “i” with an “a”, and become Tank Hence. Then we would see a real warrior – a guy that makes 30 starts a year and throws 220 innings. 😀

Everybody seems to be worried about pitching. Not sure why. Our main hope in 2026 is if we can sign a big bat for the middle of the lineup.

Without that big bat we are doomed to another “decent” year in 2026.

    Re: streaky

Mlb has an obp of .315, resulting in an out % of .685

A 68.5% failure rate makes everyone seem streaky. You, me, the guys we competed against…. Baseball successes are streaky.

I was reading an article about the Cardinals needing to address their pitching. It was a pretty good read, for a while. They said we need to remove Fedde and Mikolas (trade or release) and give one spot to McGreevy. He proposed Matz for the other spot. Then he mentioned how that would give the Cardinals 3 left handed starters: Liberatore, Matz and …. Pallante. I had to do some head scratching at that point.
