Forsch, was that on Redbird Rants? They seem to lack…uh, quality in their writing staff.

    Re: streaky

Mlb has an obp of .315, resulting in an out % of .685

A 68.5% failure rate makes everyone seem streaky. You, me, the guys we competed against…. Baseball successes are streaky.

JJ, my point is people like to cherry pick dates to prove a point. Player A has done this in the last two weeks. Player B has done that in the last 6 weeks. I tend to rely on YTD stats because I am pretty sure the games in April and May count also. YTD Gorman has an OPS of .718 and Noot has an OPS of .713. Typically the league average OPS is .750 although it is trending down this year. They both have an OPS+ of 100 so yes that is league average. Whether we consider them “solid” hitters is depending on what we consider solid I guess. Of the two Noot is much more of a valuable player because of his defense. He has a YTD WAR of 1.2 while Gorman is at 0.1.

I’m not sure if Noot or Gorman would qualify as solid hitters. Streaky maybe.

I wasn’t really talking about Noot or Gorman. More like Burly, Donovan, Contreras, Herrera. Sure you can deal one of them but you won’t get a mid tier cost controlled starter for just that. Maybe you package Gorman or Noot with one of them and get a 3-4….maybe. Contreras would be the most likely but again he’s expressed his desire to not be dealt.

I agree we’ll end up needing a starter next year. Just not sure we will trade for one. Might be a stop gap #5 we could deal later on.

We won’t get a steady mid-rotation-ish every 5 days guy for anything we have that doesn’t incude Wetherholt or Mathews. Contreras comes with his contract, so that doesn’t help. Role players having an OK year won’t cut it. Guys with minimal defensive value, no. A basket of spare parts, no.

Just acquire all the lefty starters we can, so we don’t have to face as many 💡
