jj-cf-stlParticipant“watching” is optional.

ParticipantIMHO Bloom will not only work hard on the minor leagues in 2025, but will also be involved in any large decisions at the major league level.
October 11, 2024 at 10:42 am #269484Actually this scenario might work out well for Bloom. Mo has to be the bad cop to tear it down and Bloom gets to build it back up.

That does not even have to be couched as opinion. Mozeliak said it would be the case.
October 11, 2024 at 11:08 am #269487Like when he said payroll would go up.
October 11, 2024 at 11:30 am #269490It would seem foolish to discredit everything said just by default, but have at it…
In that same vein, then I guess they aren’t cutting payroll or investing in player development either. Bloom probably didn’t really sign a five-year deal. They were just saying that. Sheesh…
October 11, 2024 at 12:05 pm #269492When somebody lies to you, then going forward do you take what they say at face value? No. Does that mean they are lying again? No. But they might be. Fool me once . . .
The fact that Mo and Ollie remain suggests something isn’t right exactly. Unless you want to think lame ducking yourself and your field manager is normal. To me it suggests BDW does not accept that Mo’s philosophy doesn’t work. He still expects the magic beans to sprout. It will be interesting to see how Bloom plays it.
October 11, 2024 at 12:40 pm #269495I think 2025 with Mo and Marmol is designed to give Bloom a mulligan year and a running start in 2026.
Mo can also be the hatchet man and take the heat if they end up trading all or some of Gray, Contreras, Helsley, and Arenado.
I think I see what they are doing and why – if not then we can blow their asses up next year.
October 11, 2024 at 12:58 pm #269496In my view, blindly expecting what is said to be a lie seems a convenient cop out from actually putting thought into the matter. Simplest to assume it is all untrue or cherry pick the ones that are suspected lies and ignore the others.
To the baseball discussion point, I bet you don’t actually believe that Bloom will not be involved in major decisions. You just wanted to try to inject something negative into it. Mission accomplished.
October 11, 2024 at 1:02 pm #269497What happens if there is a philosophical difference? Bloom wins?
October 11, 2024 at 1:05 pm #269498DeWitt breaks the tie, I imagine.

ParticipantI think all we can do is wait it out. I think other people needed to go but maybe nobody has a clear mind of how to get through the wall of crap and get to the other side. I wish they had chose to get busy livin but it is what it is. I agree with bling that its more likely they are hoping for 2024 kc royals like experience in 2025 just to try to say they were right all along. Some that are more of the fans of the moment type people may pray for that. Im not among that.
October 11, 2024 at 1:47 pm #269500The fact that Bloom has a five year contract that doesn’t even start for another year and Mo only has one year left tells us all we need to know about who BDW sees as shaping the future for the Cardinals.
October 11, 2024 at 4:52 pm #269504This is nothing more than Bill D showing loyalty to Mo for his years of service. He’s letting him go out on his own terms. With his pride. Of which there is plenty. JMO
October 12, 2024 at 3:08 am #269530Just think of the feast that awaits us on these fora in 2025! A veritable avalanche of new nits to pick, decisions to second guess, remarks to misconstrue, enough to satisfy even the most voracious malcontent. All errors of judgment will be glibly swept under the rug in the name of development, rebuilding, cutting costs. Not to worry when things go wrong however, Bloom will fix it in 2026. It will be a management paradise for excuses and a Gordian knot for the terminally frustrated fan.
October 12, 2024 at 11:27 am #269549The volume of complaining is generally directly proportional to the performance of the team against reasonable expectations.
So, if a team is expected to win its division and finishes in third place at around .500; the outcry will be long and loud.
If a team is expected to finish well below .500 and not be in contention and instead finished third at around .500 the commentary will be far different.
Same end result but coming from opposite ends of the expectation spectrum.
Sure, some fans will never be happy even with a world series title….”Should have swept those bums and never been pushed to seven games to win it!”
For next season all the talking heads will forecast a bad season for the Cardinals so – if they manage even a repeat of this season, the narrative surrounding the team will be different as they will have exceeded expectations and be considered to be rising as opposed to this year’s team which is considered to be lost, floundering, and directionless.

jj-cf-stlParticipantNext seasons W/L outcome will rely heavily on the pitching that is left. If Gray and Helsley are gone, we could be in the ballpark of the 2023 W/L.
I’m not expecting the “reset” to affect the lineups production as much, even if Willson is dealt.

ParticipantYea losing goldy isnt gping to change a lot from this year. I expect about the same out of arenado. Pitching as usual dictates things. To me this years team finished better than i figured. While i wasnt expecting 2023 record, i figured wed fimish with wins in the 70s. But the two older pitchers we got pitched better than i expected or at least held up better. This coming seaaon im not sure whats to expect. Obviously depends on lots of factors not known right now.
October 12, 2024 at 1:02 pm #269556We don’t know for sure if this is going to be a hard rebuild or a soft rebuild but I agree that it will depend on how much pitching they get rid of. The offense was already terrible so I doubt it could be much worse.
I am bracing myself for a couple of losing seasons before we start the climb back to the top of the division and I am willing to accept that as long as they are serious about builiing an elite level player devolpment system.
Yes there will be plenty of wailing and gnashing of teeth the next two years but we can always just blame it on Ollie instead of the folks who created this mess.
