1tough, yea Astros pitching is really good but good hitters have to step up. I didn’t give the cards any excuses for not hitting the Phillies pitching, I’m not going to let the Yankee hitters off the hook vs astros. I believe great pitching will win out usually but there’s no excuse for continually being shut down like a lot of the Yankees or cardinal batters were and are.

1982willie…I agree, but in the event of a 3 game series, any batting order can go cold in 2 games and be entirely stymied by even marginal pitching. It’s why I think any 3 game series in the post-season is silly.

Hoskins is ripping the baseball like Goldschmidt…In July.

So much for no runs in the post-season…7-6 Phillies in the 5th.

1tough, sorry I don’t believe in excuses. Both sides of the ball have got to bring their A game. Whe a team can be basically shut down in a short set vs being better in a long set tells me that team is just good at hitting weaker pitching. Funny tonight the Yankees I believe had 3 hits, former cardinal players had 2 of them. Now the Cardinals had some bad managing thrown in there but things like that are going to cost you if your offense is being shut down.

Well, let’s see…Today’s two LCS games could very well end as Phillies in 5 and Astros in a 4 game sweep. Both the Padres and Yankees could become victims of a “Bloody Sunday.” If that indeed happens, I like the Astros in 5 games over the Phillies in the ’22 WS. We’ll see what happens…

This one is for you 1td. I saw a sign in the stands after J.T. hit his homerun. It said:

    J.T.
    Jackin’ Taters

Trivia ?. Why did the homerun get labeled as a tater and who did it? I didn’t know, but read it this morning.

Haha! I have no idea as to the correct answer, Euro. My assumption has always been the association of mashed taters (one of my favorite din-din sides) to mashing a baseball for a HR. I also thought it might be associated with a “hot tater” as in scorching and blistering the baseball with the barrel of the bat for the mammouth type round tripper. Whatever the answer is, I just always liked saying, “WHOA! Pujols just TATERED-UP again!”…Haha!

George Scott, 60s and 70s 1B with Red Sox. He said he loved his taters (sweet potatoes). And he loved his homeruns just like his taters. It took off from there.

EuroDandy…I’ll be darned. I would have guessed the term would have been around longer than that. At any rate, I’ve got a 1967 WS program that has Scott’s black and white photo along with all of the other players that participated in that WS. I also have a filled out and used scorecard from game 5. Carlton was the loser and Lonborg the winner in that game and my paternal grandfather, who I attended the game with, even noted the exact time of first pitch at the top of the scorecard…Haha! The price on the scorecard is a quarter. The program was $2.00. Scott was pretty good. Especially with the glove at 1B.

Man alive! Hoskins with another tater. That’s 4 in 5 games in the NLCS and 5 in the ’22 post-season. Freese tatered-up 5 times in the ’11 post-season.

Haha! Now Soto answers back with a solo tater.

Harper with the go ahead, 2 run tater to put the Phillies within 3 outs of representing the NL in the WS.

Phillies win the NL Pennant. Padres had baserunners at 1B and 2B with 1 out in the visitor half of the 9th trailing by a run and Grisham lays down a bunt to move the runners up, but give up an out. He lays down a bunt? Horrible decision! Next batter Nora swings at the first pitch and hits a lazy fly ball to RF to end the game and the NLCS. SD deserves to lose, but this NLCS was a lot closer than the 4 games to 1 Philadelphia win would indicate.

NLCS MVP goes to Harper. He’s no joke.

Phillies have to be happy that they shell out big bucks for Harper, and he delivers. There are likely metrics somewhere on how much revenue a pennant brings, but Mr. Harper probably had a positive ROI this year, even with all the down time.

The number 6 seed goes to the Series. They look a little like the 2006 Cardinals.

BikeMike…Yeah, they do somewhat remind you of the ’06 Redbird team. Although I think that Cardinal team had more talent than this ’22 edition Phillies ballclub. They also had to play a full 7 game NLCS to dispatch the Mets. The Phillies are no joke. I watched all 6 regular season games that they played with the Cardinals and I would have much rather played either SD or MIL in the first round. I still think they’re in trouble when they get a look at the Astros on Friday. Now watch, the Dusty curse will factor in and the Yankess will win 4 in a row over in the ALCS…Haha!

The Padres were competitive this year.

Bling…Yeah, in 10 years when you see 4 to 1 Phillies, it’ll look like a walk, but it was a fun LCS to watch. Lots of lead changes and late game comebacks. I enjoyed it.

Yankees up 3-0 in the 2nd inning. I have to give them credit for showing up tonight with some fight. Some crazy things can take place in baseball.

Two BB’s and one swing of the bat by Pena ties it up 3-3.

You have to be able to throw a strike when you need to throw a strike. There should be a metric for that.

How do you define “when you need to throw a strike”?

forsch31…I don’t know, but the definition of 2 BB’s to begin an inning after just being staked to a 3-0 lead is synonymous with the worst thing a pitcher can do.

Haha! Bader with another tater! I’m telling you, they’re going to be marketing “Baderade” on Madison Ave…
