mud, on that, we do agree. Like it or not, we are going to need to get used to it. That seems the only practical response to me. Getting all upset isn’t going to accomplish anything other than getting oneself all upset. It is nothing we can control. I get that others see it differently, but I prefer to focus on the things I can impact. This isn’t one.

ZTR, that is what got your last thread removed. In this case, I am just removing one post. Personal views with inflammatory language on BLM or the police or politicians and the like are not welcome on this board. I don’t know how I can be clearer.

Thanks Brian for not killing this thread. People have taken pains to not express their political feelings and to stick with talking about athletes involving themselves publicly in politics. This whole thing started last year (or was it two years ago) with the kneeling. The only thing that baffles me about what is happening now is that there is no clear list of demands, just some generalized stuff to which there is no specific answer and a lot of these teams and players depend on their security. That is the one point I got from a couple of black scholars – the fact that is no specificity to settle the whole argument so we may go along with this for several more years. Back in the 50s when integration was finally outlawed I fully supported that and understood it despite living in a deep southern city. It certainly leveled the playing field. It seems that what is happening now is just a hodgepodge of demands that have no solution. I wish the athletes had stayed out of it but some felt that they could influence it by using their names and professions but they should know from watching the Hollywood actors tying to do the same thing that it can really backfire on them.

The only thing I object to MLB doing – and it was done for money – was allowing that Nike emblem be put on every uniform. Nike as a company is up to its ears in politics. Yes, it is money but it sounds like anything can be bought in MLB with enough $$$$/

Thank you Mr. Walton, as well as members who have shared. This is your forum, and I get that we should not bring our BLM feelings into it. Perfectly fair.

Encouraging to me to see people years older than me posting on here. Bravo!!

What an awesome game today. I would like to say that joining this forum and venting seems to be helping me. I will continue to post. Thanks to all.

Nice to see Cards fans who have been through the highs and the lows. Remembering the 50s, 70s, 90s, etc.

Some people just cannot just help themselves. I had to nuke another post for the same reason as ZTR’s. Its first sentence was this…

“I am reluctant to post this as it will go against Mr. Walton’s policy but I decided to do it anyway because it is important to say…”

I haven’t yet taken away commenting privileges from anyone, but I have now warned two people twice. Just like in baseball, three strikes and you are out, as our posted rules have long documented.

I don’t want to stop dialogue between posters who follow the rules, but I don’t have time to babysit those who won’t.

I think for non specific baseball stuff its generally best to state your thoughts and move on. While this topic is somewhat baseball related because it involves the players and the teams, it also involves a lot of other stuff which is larger than baseball. Baseball is just a game. I think it is important people have the right to talk about it to an extent but not argue and try to demean anyone which can be hard to do. You arent going to change too many minds. With baseball stuff, you can counter with statistics, contracts and other stuff, with this its kind of ingrained in people how they think and it just turns bad. Brian does a great job with this so best not to ruin it.

I think I must have spent too many years in the military – there is no need to mix politics with your job. It is prohibited in the military and sports should be smart enough to keep it out as well. These players (of all sports) have such opportunity to do things off the field/court and get it big publicity I think they damage anything they could do by bringing it to the job.

I understand the sentiment that a lot of people here have. I loved listening to the games late at night in my bunkbed on my walkman. I was blissfully unaware of the terrible things that were going on in the country then and still going on today. I choose to not keep my head stuck in the sand. Is it inconvenient that we miss baseball games? That’s the point! Our country continues to ignore issues that don’t affect us individually and until we all come together to solve our issues or at least acknowledge them, these protests should take place. Personally I think BLM is hurting its cause with its strategy. But I understand the anger burning for justice.
But athletes protesting is a great non-violent way to gain awareness. No baseball on TV? There are a lot more important things to stand up for. The good old days weren’t so good for a lot of this country and ignoring the problem sure didn’t make it go away.

mud don’t you realize that this is a thread with the word ‘politics’ in the title and we are keeping it going by behaving (mostly) by Mr Waltons rules. I must be allowed to say though that after seeing that photo of Flaherty greeting Mr Wainwright I did not realize that Jack dressed the part (all black) for his politics too. But it was a funny thing to do to Adam.

CC, politics and sports have been hand in hand since forever. Cap Anson promoting segregation to keep black players out of MLB for starters.

Good point BHC. This is not a new phenomenon. Can you imagine what it would have been like to have message boards back in the days of Jackie Robinson?

I am not opposed to anyone expressing their viewpoint. I just object to it bleeding over into the actual games; the workplace if you will and I don’t like to see the flag / national anthem disrespected.

The ability this nation affords people to have and express their thoughts and opinions is one of the things that makes it different from places like China and North Korea.

Since the political stuff has affected games, including a Cardinal game, and realistically may affect games in the future, it is as much a legitimate topic as Covid. But I agree with what I think is Brian’s position that discussion here should be limited to effects of the political stuff on the game. Rightfully excluded would be who is right and who is wrong, or what aspects of the political stuff somebody likes or doesn’t like.

    Brian,

I’ve looked and probably missed it.

Is there a PM feature for this users of this board?

Is like to communicate with you via PM if I may.

Unfortunately, the board software does not include a PM feature. However, I am easy to find. My email address is at the bottom of every article I post. Further, in the center of the red bar at the top of the page, there is a “CONTACT US” feature. Those entries come directly to me.

I have a question I would like to ask. Yes or No is a suitable answer. Do you think that if fans were in the stands there would have been any game postponements with relation to the Kenosha guy that was shot?
I say NO. Bugging out on fans is not a nice thing to do.

People are tired of watching the highly political
    @NBA
. Basketball ratings are WAY down, and they won’t be coming back. I hope football and baseball are watching and learning because the same thing will be happening to them. Stand tall for our Country and our Flag!!!
