    it is certainly possible Contreras will have to be bought out to accept a trade.

    It is also possible that his exit interview goes something like this:

    Cardinals: “We’d like to get your thoughts on your first season in St. Louis.”

    Contreras: “I didn’t appreciate you throwing me under the bus and publicly humiliating me, when half the pitching staff wasn’t even here in spring training. I was. Look at their numbers. Look at mine. Trade me.”

    I like what Contreras did for us and think he will be a valuable player next year.

    Coming in to the season I would have been fine with giving Knizner the job, and Herrera as back up. But I was not upset with signing Willson, and he provided some passion and decent production.

    Our club is sort of dull, with a very dull manager so having a few guys that make it fun helps bring out some fire and joy to the games.

    Two months ago I would have said there was a better than 50% chance that Contreras would be elsewhere in 2024. I would now peg that as 10%.
