In a toss-up, I’ll go Bernal over Baez here just due to his longer term consistency.
5) Bernal
October 16, 2025 at 2:24 pm #294388Umber 5 for me is Roby. I know he’s out for the year, but he was pitching his best just before the injury.
October 16, 2025 at 2:36 pm #294389I think Jimmy Crooks will one day wear a red jacket. He simply has an it factor when watching him play. His bat to ball skills and defensive prowess will both age much better than speed or power.
Crooks at 5 please.October 16, 2025 at 3:29 pm #294392
stlcard25ParticipantJoshua Baez at 5 for me. He reminds me a bit of Tommy Pham, at least the way he plays and hopefully without the long injury history coming. 20 homers and 54 steals this year is a nice combo of power and speed. I think his ceiling is just higher than Bernal, Crooks or whoever else might be in consideration here.

Participant#5. Brycen Mautz
2.98 ERA for Springfield in 2025. 134 Ks in 115 innings.
No injury issues. When Rob Cerfolio first saw him on the mound, he said “that kid can pitch”.
October 16, 2025 at 4:17 pm #294394#5. Leo Bernal
October 16, 2025 at 4:51 pm #294396#5 Josh Baez
October 16, 2025 at 7:30 pm #294399#5. Joshua Baez
One of the few bats in the org that has great power upside. Athletic as well although I think his home is RF. There will be plenty of swing and miss to his game in the majors and he won’t have a great BA, but I expect him to draw a decent amount of walks.
October 16, 2025 at 7:32 pm #294400Nigel, if you think Crooks will one day wear a red jacket, how is he not your number 1 then? I hope we have at least one player in the farm that hits that goal one day, but I don’t see multiple guys doing it and if I thought someone could (most likely Wetherholt), they would be my clear #1 which Wetherholt is
October 16, 2025 at 7:35 pm #2944025 – Bernal
October 16, 2025 at 8:05 pm #294409#5 Josh Baez.
Pads, I hope Baez gets to finish developing before being brought up, unlike Carlson. I also hope he has the ability to keep adjusting as opponents adjust to him. He has a lot of talent.
Roby would be my 2nd highest pitching prospect and #3 overall if he could stay healthy. I’m wondering if he can do that.
Hence would be highly rated, also. However, injuries and lack of being able to be efficient hold him down on my list.
Rodriguez would have been after Baez, for me. Crooks and Bernal both seem like good prospects but they don’t scream “great”. They appear to be another Carson Kelly type player.
October 16, 2025 at 8:44 pm #294412#5 – Josh Baez – Cheers to hoping the breakout is real.
October 16, 2025 at 10:53 pm #294427Baez #5 again for me. I too hope it is real, but a lot of guys look good in The Texas League, so who knows. I like him better than the others at this point. Some interesting players will be in AAA at some point next year.
October 17, 2025 at 7:50 am #2944335. Bernal

cardsfan64ParticipantWhat do we know about the prospect Jesus Baez that we got from the Mets in the Helsley deal? Baseball America has him ranked as our #5 best prospect, but I know almost nothing about him. They think very highly of him, even more than any of the players everyone has voted for at our #5!
October 17, 2025 at 9:13 am #294438Leonardo Abdiel Bernal @ #5 por favor. How can this diamond in the rough miss?

Jesus Baez has some tools, but listening to our own Kyle Reis’ descriptions of his game have me leery of voting for him anytime soon. It sounds like he’s prone to just making boneheaded plays on a regular basis. If he can make gains on the mental side, we may really have something, but that often is the toughest part of the game. He hit OK in Peoria and OK in the Mets system, but he’s still young so there’s some room to improve.
October 17, 2025 at 12:17 pm #294444“64” – I’ve watched Baez some. I agree with Kyle Reis that he makes some boneheaded plays sometimes and that he does this quirky stance with 2 strikes. That said, he could be a really good hitter and average fielder at the hot corner if things work out for us. #2/3 hitter in a lineup upside. He’s incredibly young for his level. I expect he won’t be called up until at least 2028. I have him at 16 on my list but my 12-18 are all really close. I do think that #5 seems really high given the pretty extreme risk on him right now.
October 18, 2025 at 12:44 am #294473Ixan Henderson had an great year as did Mautz but they have no votes so I want my vote to count and I will go with Crooks at #5. Older than Bernal but has more pop. Think one of them will go in a trade in the off season.
October 18, 2025 at 4:49 am #294474Compare Henderson, Mautz and Mathews stats. Not much difference that I can see from a quick look.
October 18, 2025 at 7:16 am #294478
stlcard25ParticipantForsch, not a huge difference. Quinn and Ixan look to be able to go a little deeper into games at the same level, and Quinn has better strikeout stuff than Brycen, who in turn has a little better than Ixan. Before this year, I would have put Quinn at the head of the list for control/command, then Ixan, then Mautz. Yet, this year they basically flipped that order. I’d still probably tend to stick to my overall thoughts coming into the year on them, maybe switching Mathews to the back of that list for now. Quinn and Ixan have both been good at every level, with Quinn’s weird control year this year standing out despite his overall decent stat line. Mautz had a bad year in Peoria last year as his outlier (seems like a theme for these middle of the ranking guys). I have Quinn ahead of Ixan in my ratings as I think Quinn has an extra potential gear, with Brycen a notch behind both. Thinking of Quinn as a 55 guy, Ixan as a 50 and Brycen as a 45-50. Time will tell. It’s a nice little bit of depth to have, since our guys like Hence and Roby with the stuff to be true aces just don’t seem to have the health to do it.
October 18, 2025 at 9:51 am #294487
cardsfan64ParticipantI will add to Bernal’s tally for #5.
October 18, 2025 at 10:07 am #294488
stlcard25ParticipantSince we have a tight vote, I thought I would mention the tiebreaker rules here, now. We have a “first in” system. This means that in case of a tie, the first prospect to get to the slot wins. So if Baez and Bernal tie, the edge goes to the one who gets the 8th/9th/whatever vote first. So get your votes in early!
