Louis – I’m not sure what you’re asking or I’d try to answer.
I’m tempted to go with Padilla here. However, I’m just so unsure about the DSL guys as we’ve been burned lots of times. I’m thinking I’ll get a few more surer bets in first.
I’ve been a Rajcic fan for a couple seasons now. He’s a workhorse who has a lot of diverse offerings. He has the look/feel of an old school middle to back of the rotation journeyman starter to me. I’m going with him at 13.
I’m going with Zach Showalter at 14. This might be a leap. But scouts feel he has tons of upside and he just had a very successful season at a young age. I’m just not certain if he moves to starting or stays as a reliever. Competition for starting jobs may be fierce next year.

Rodriguez hit .345/.462/.683 this year. And that was after a sluggish start to his campaign.
From June 18 to season’s end (Aug. 20), the 17-year-old backstop batted .355/.490/.745 with 60% more walks than whiffs. And those latter numbers were supported by a reasonable, repeatable .337 BABIP in case you were wondering.#14 Yairo Padilla
Shortstop Padilla is Baseball America’s #5 Cardinal farmhand, and their overall #2 Dominican Summer League prospect, thanks to his speed (22 steals in just 36 games), defense (best infielder + best infield arm in the entire organization, per BA), and hitting potential, as Yairo slashed a solid .287/.391/.404 in an enormous 50-team league that overall hit a rather dismal .238 with a .701 OPS.

#14 Rainiel RodriguezScouting reports sound great on Rainiel and he performed great as a 17 year old in the DSL. This ranking may be aggressive, but I really like the potential he has with the bat and am putting him above some lower ceiling higher floor guys. Even if he can’t stick at catcher, he has a chance to be good enough with the bat to hit enough for 1B.
I think there’s a pretty strong possibility that Matt Svanson will be competing at the major league level at some point in 2025. I don’t see another player past our #12, Tekoah Roby, that might do that except, possibly, Prieto or Bedell. And if Bedell gets injured again, that leaves only Prieto, barring a big surprise,

#14 – Matt SvansonNot sure Svanson will make it to the bigs this year, but he has a chance. Sem needs to have a good year.
My picks…
13. Sem Robberse. His pitch mix changed enough this year that he looks like he could be a useful arm going forward. The problem is, his useful arm got injured (theme of the year). Looks like more of an up and down starter or a #5 if you squint, but maybe there is more in the pen for him. He gets the nod at this spot due to the fact that I think he could carve out a role as a junk ball reliever more easily than the #14 and below guys.
14. Ian Bedell. I was a little back and forth on this one, but Ian made it back by seasons end. Sort of a rinse and repeat from most of this chunk of the vote, he’s looked like a back end starter or up and down pitcher but then he got hurt. He did have a nice stretch between May and July between Springfield and Memphis where he had a 2.01 ERA and 59 Ks against 17 BBs in 56.2 IP over 9 starts. That gives him a slightly higher ceiling than a couple of other arms coming up soon, IMO.

Thanks for bringing Gastelum’s name up. He’s still at Palm Beach for now. But on one of the ‘Wednesday’s with Walton and Newberry’ segments (Aug. 24), Blake commented that he believes that Gastelum has the ‘single best pitch in the organization’.
Other than Roby, who slid several slots, we seem to be ranking pitchers this year the same as we ranked them last year, even though they all missed substantial time due to arm injury. Its like we pretend their arm didn’t get hurt. They didn’t miss a chunk of the season. Nothing happened, and there is no greater risk now than a year ago. I kind of think TCN list will be similar. Are we supposed to believe this is realistic? Its not realistic.
