In that scenario Davis has rebounded this year with a more solid season. Not great but solid. There is still hope for him.
August 18, 2024 at 1:58 pm #264733Yeah, I have no issue with Davis really.
August 19, 2024 at 7:55 am #264794On Sunday, the #STLCards system went 3-1. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DH @jimmy_crooks22, singled, doubled, walked 2X, drove in three and scored 2X for Springfield. Other standouts: Mike Antico, Ixan Henderson, Darlin Moquete, Leonel Sequera and Ian Petrutz.… pic.twitter.com/JDPBy1Mp1m

August 19, 2024 at 8:32 am #264798I would really consider promoting Mathews to AAA. You could get about 5 starts in before the end of the year to test him as he seems to have made the adjustments for AA.
When I first read your post, I thought no way the Cardinals would do that, but he started 6 games at Palm Beach, 7 at Peoria and now 8 at Springfield.
Perhaps it is time to promote him.
I think I have Mathews as our #1 prospect even above Wetherholt.
Yes, I will likely have Mathews at #1 when we vote in the offseason.
August 19, 2024 at 8:36 am #264799Last year when Chase Davis was stinking it up with Palm Beach everyone was reminding me in no uncertain terms that it meant nothing. But this year’s first rounder is doing well and it does mean something. Amazin. Maybe I’ll catch on to how stats work some day.
Wetherholt doing well is relative. He has a .771 OPS in A ball.
Christian Moore, the player selected immediately after Wetherholt, has a 1.245 OPS in AA.

Not “everyone”, my friend. When other raters granted Davis a top 10 spot in the system, I ranked him 16th on my list. (Our community voted him ninth.)
Here is my summary:
“I do not disagree with Blake’s overall assessment of Davis, but to me, the ceiling of a platoon outfielder as the return from a first round pick would be a disappointment.”
August 19, 2024 at 9:51 am #264807Brian, is there a running tally of The Cardinal Nation’s player of the day somewhere? I’m curious who has the most of them.
August 19, 2024 at 9:59 am #264808Also, in the community voting last off-season, bling, you said Davis was no. 8 on your personal list. Let me guess. You were influenced by others then, but now with 20-20 hindsight, you have figured it out! 😉

August 19, 2024 at 10:02 am #264810Albert, logging Players of the Day is a great idea that I have never implemented. Maybe for 2025?
August 19, 2024 at 10:22 am #264812Yeah that would be a very appreciated feature requese Brian.
August 19, 2024 at 10:25 am #264813My argument isn’t that he is bad or good. I was commenting on the selective reliance upon or dismissal of data depending upon what works at the time.
August 19, 2024 at 6:08 pm #264842My observation is that you rated Davis no. 8 last year, more aggressive than the community and this site. You obviously dismissed his poor career-to-date stats in doing so. Having read your posts over time, I am certain there are other times you refer to stats to support your view (which is only natural to do).
If so, then you may very well be among those nameless people you so readily criticize.
