Cards fail to score in the 8th.

Despite any questionable ball/strike calls, these last 2 games have strongly indicated that you probably don’t want to see Burly and O’Neill step into the box when you need a couple of runs to survive.
This game clinched it. We are now officially bonafide sellers. It should be a fun upcoming week. I’ll set the over/under for Cardinal trades at 3.
Does Larry Bird ever make an appearance in his hometown of French Lick?
I’m surprised that Rat hasn’t weighed in on your question yet since he lives in that area, Scotty. I thought I read somewhere that Larry still lived in French Lick. It sounds as if 1TD , like myself, is chomping at the bit to dine at Rat’s Amish eatery in the greater French Lick area. I think that a bunch of us need to head down there to have lunch with Rat. Any other posters live within driving range of French Lick?
The Amish restaurant that I eat at once a week is NOT in French Lick. It’s in Montgomery, IN.
Not sure about Larry Bird but I don’t think he visits French Lick much nowadays. I am sure he gets there every so often but that’s about it.
Hard to know what’s worse? Our starters or our bullpen! Top to bottom this is probably the worst pitching staff in the NL! So sad!
Pugs…There’s a place here in StL. Co. called King Edward’s that we go to on occasion and it’s where I get my fried catfish fix. Their specialty is actually fried chicken, but I never get the yardbird because the catfish is so good. At any rate, it’s fresh and hot right out of the deep fryer and I always get the fried onion rings and cole slaw to go alnog with the spicy corn puppies and wash it down with iced tea with plenty of lemon. It’s good eatin’ Pugs. I never smoked any of those fancy cigars, but Rats has good taste when it comes to those chuckleheads…Haha!
Did not see this one but heard some of it on the radio broadcast while riding the bike. The error by Walker, which was ruled a hit but Rooney and Horton said Walker misplayed it and should have been given an error, really hurt.

In 2016, after several years of missing the playoffs, Mozeliak said the Cardinals would return to their roots and emphasize pitching and defense.
Since then:
– The Cardinals have played Matt Adams in the outfield
– Have played Jose Martinez and Juan Yepez in the field on the major league roster
– Traded for Marcel Ozuna with an injured shoulder
– Are now playing Jordan Walker in the outfieldWe don’t have defensive standards in the outfield.
Curiously, when our starting outfield was TON, Bader and Carlson, we were making the playoffs.
Yeah, it is nice to see Walker have some moments in the bigs. However, a better approach would have been to have him play in Memphis this year and work on his outfield defense, while we played a better defensive outfield.
That would have accomplished a couple of things. It would have better prepared Jordan for the majors, not to mention pushed the clock back a year on his career. Plus it would have saved our pitchers who knows how many pitches this season. Probably would have translated into maybe 2-3 more wins as well.
Management has done a lot of things wrong in recent seasons, and it has accumulated to what we see in the W-L record of this club.

Bringing a guy up from AA when you have alternatives, and then seeing him produce substantial negative WAR, suggests that it was a mistake. But we need to keep in mind other factors, namely the outfield injuries. The extra outfielders who filled in were either very poor defenders or infielders playing out of position, or in the case of Mercado, a 4A guy. Mostly, the CF playing next to Walker all year has been somebody playing out of position, and moving him back and forth from one corner to the other couldn’t have helped. So roster construction and player useage were key contributors. All teams have injuries, but not all teams bungle the work around so severely. Pitching has underperformed, but FO and managerial ineptitude has made matters worse for the pitchers.
