That Gorman HR looked like it could have had Neil Armstrong aboard…
July 22, 2023 at 3:08 pm #228763That was a Ruthian blast.
July 22, 2023 at 3:10 pm #228764I don’t think there’s any question that Gorman can hit LHP’ing. He absolutely annihilated that pitch from Smyly.
July 22, 2023 at 3:14 pm #228765Arenado coming around from first to score kind of looked like that was enough with the running. Sometimes it sucks to not be 25.
July 22, 2023 at 3:17 pm #228766Maybe Mikolas can hold a lead this time.
July 22, 2023 at 3:23 pm #228767He’s going to set a record for losing leads.
July 22, 2023 at 3:24 pm #228768Lots of bleeders and bloops from the Cubs today.

stlcard25ParticipantMikolas is sort of like late career Waino in that he gives up lots of hits but generally keeps teams off the board. In this game, he’s not keeping the scoreboard clean either.
July 22, 2023 at 3:39 pm #228770Mikolas is sort of like late career Waino
And we’ve got him for two more years!!!
July 22, 2023 at 3:50 pm #228771Nothing quite like a Saturday in the sunshine with the Cardinals/Cubs at Wrigley.
July 22, 2023 at 3:53 pm #228772The 5 inning start doesn’t help. I missed Ollie getting the hook and Contreras coming out.
July 22, 2023 at 3:53 pm #228773Well, the pendulum has swung our way, for the moment. Rah Cardinals!
July 22, 2023 at 3:53 pm #228774Since no one’s answered the trivia questions…
The correct answer for which pitcher holds the all-time record for pick-offs is none other than Steve Carlton.
The correct answer for which pitcher holds the all-time record for balks is none other than…Steve Carlton.
Both pitchers were once Cardinals…Haha!
July 22, 2023 at 3:54 pm #228775Herrera with a mask save and a beauty.
July 22, 2023 at 4:04 pm #228776Bellinger got a bad strike called on him, so he had to swing at an unhittable pitch with two strikes on him, same as Burly yesterday. But he fouled it off, then came back with the RBI base hit. That’s how its done.
As to Thompson. Maybe Mo can get another rookie league catcher.
July 22, 2023 at 4:07 pm #228777Appears it’s bad bullpen day today.
July 22, 2023 at 4:17 pm #228778The birds are just uncomfortable with a lead.
July 22, 2023 at 4:21 pm #228779I don’t get it…The Cardinals are featuring a Harry Potter t-shirt promo night at a baseball game? They must have dreamed up that idea with Leake…
July 22, 2023 at 4:27 pm #228780Cubbie fans ain’t got the good sense to get out of the rain. Even chickens know better than that…
July 22, 2023 at 4:30 pm #228781
jj-cf-stlParticipantQuite the different lineup with Noot and Gorman starting.
Why we are giving Fermin starts at 2B (yesterday), with Gorman sitting vs lefties, is total idiocy. It’s the perfect season to let Gorman bat vs both. Make the investment.
July 22, 2023 at 4:33 pm #228782No question about it. The more looks he gets, the more he’ll destroy pitches like the one Smyly offered up.
July 22, 2023 at 4:52 pm #228783Any weather update for the Chicago area? In a game like this, all I ask is to be given a chance and use up all 27 outs.
July 22, 2023 at 5:16 pm #228784I still don’t understand why we decided to go with only 12 pitchers. It’s like we just try to lose sometimes.
Zack Thompson (2 H, 2 BB, 3 ER) & Drew VerHagen (1 H, 2 Ks) got the first 'pen calls & JoJo Romero was warming up when the rain hit.
With only 12 pitchers, everyone in the bullpen has to be trusted to pitch & get outs. The choices were limited for the coaching staff.

July 22, 2023 at 5:19 pm #228785Didn’t see it but the box says Thompsons contribution wasn’t pretty.
July 22, 2023 at 5:36 pm #228786
jj-cf-stlParticipantLike Liberatore, Thompson has the pitches to succeed, but they both lack command of their pitches. Today Thompson couldn’t tell if he was throwing a fat pitch down the middle or 6″ off the plate. Location, location, location.
