Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for this one. Yesterday because of that stupid Apple TV game I was at the Amish restaurant north of town on the lake consuming catfish fiddlers, mashed potatoes/gravy, noodles, dressing, sweet tea, chocolate cake with white icing, and a bowl of vanilla soft serve ice cream.
For this one today I will be having a ribeye steak on my grill, a couple ears of Aces High sweet corn, a Mt. Dew, some Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream, and a 7×50 Palma Real cigar.
Ron Kulpa will be the 3rd base umpire in this one. He’s not very good behind the plate. Almost as bad as Angel Hernandez (who has disappeared in 2023) and C.B. Bucknor.
r/Esteemed Rat
If it’s the last thing I do before going to that big diamond in the sky, it’s going to be a trip with Rat to his amazing Amish eatery in beautiful French Lick, Indiana. I’m not entirely sure that I’ll be able to muster up the courage to indulge in some of their catfish fiddlers or turkey ice cream, but everything else is fair game. Even though we don’t know who is dealing for the cubbies today, I’ll venture out on the proverbial limb by calling this one 9-4 Cards with Goldy throttling not one…….but two taters that far eclipse the Wrigley ivy.
For din-din for me on this fine Saturday, I’ll be trekking over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse again for some of their delicious steak tartare……off the menu. I started off having din-din just a couple of times a week over at Johnny’s, but it’s been 5 nights a week of late.
Not too many things better than a fried catfish plate with onion rings, cole slaw and puppies and if I ever go there I’d hope to meet “The hick from Frenck Lick,” who was the smartest basketball player in the history of the world…”Stolen by Bird!”…Haha!

What I wouldn’t give for a platter of catfish, pups and fries. I’m getting a little tired of trout and codfish.

3B Jose Fermin RCubs are reportedly going with Drew Smyly (L), so I’m not sure the logic in batting Gorman third. But there doesn’t have to be any, I guess.
Yeah, they like them trouts. We once spent almost a week in Poland and that’s about all I ate for lunch and dinner over there. It was real good and real cheap too, but I was ready for a pizza by the time we stepped aboard the west-bound train.
Sounds like with our anti-lefty lineup they’re starting with a righty so we don’t get an early lead. Since we got robbed last night I’m starting to not like the Cubs. Going back to how it used to be?
Most fish pretty much the same do me. Just depends on how you cook it. Couldn’t take it lunch and dinner every day unless I had nothing else to eat. Got our ace up today!

Bonus trivia…Who is the pitcher who hold the all-time record for balks?
Is there any consequence foe an umpire who makes a number of clearly horrible calls? Does the crew chief have a duty to have words with the offender? Can New York slap his hand? Or is he just totally free to be as bad as he wants?
No Pettitte’s not him, but good guess. Petite’s second place all-time in pick-offs. He had a excellent move to 1B. Pettite is also a pitcher who is one game shy of being a 20 game winner. In the post-season…Haha!
A hint to the trivia questions…The correct answers to both of them have a well known Cardinal connection.
I haven’t heard of discipline for bad balls and strikes calls CIF. I believe the umps work in teams that pretty much stay the same. There is a lead for each group and they say they review their calls after the games. Don’t know of a ststem for balls and strikes but the teams can protest some of the calls to the league after the games. College football works the same way. Its after the fact but I imagine what goes around comes around as with any job.
