Gorman is young, but showing a lot of promise as a big time slugger. And he is an infielder. A great lineup versus a righty would start with Donovan, Nooty, Goldy, Old Nolan, Young Nolan.
You hit ‘em with the two lefty hitters to start, then three sluggers.
Didn’t see the game …anybody know what Alcantra’s velocity was….wondering if they overused him last year….think his ERA is up to 4.70
Despite another tepid performance out of our newest addition, Ryan “Rowdy” Tepera, we come away with the win and the sweep, avenging the Marlins total dismantling of our Birds in Miami just prior to the mid-season break. It certainly appears our boys are making their run, with the high hopes of getting back into the thick of things. Every Cardinal fan should be onboard with this quest…….right? I have mixed feelings. With vivid fond memories of 2011 in mind, how could one not get excited about the possibilities? And oh what a magical story it would be, to come roaring back to win a title after being pretty much the second worst team in all of baseball at the halfway mark. Those sort of things just don’t happen. A team can play poorly for the first couple of months, like Philadelphia did last season, and then come back to make a world series appearance. But there’s just no way a team can play so bad for so long, like our 2023 Cardinals, and then find themselves playing during the waning days of October……is there? But the Cardinals have been so disappointing on so many different levels this year, that wouldn’t it be just like them to rattle off an amazing run just prior to the trade deadline, thus inspiring Mo to keeping this disjointed squad mainly intact. And then come August they revert back to their losing ways for the remainder of the season. Wholesale changes need to be made. This club cannot allow an 8 or 9 game win streak to stand in the way of this.
Tepera can go out there and throw an Eephus pitch and I would have more confidence in him than what Cabrera looked like this year….something happened to that guy late last year when Marmol and him got into a dust up on the mound… his confidence never recovered after that so I’m guessing there was a lot more to that incident when they got to the clubhouse.
Cabrera has a great arm, could see him doing well for another team if he can get it all together.
Hell, I forgot it was an afternoon game.
9 1/2 out of the Division, 10 out of the last wildcard.
If they can go 8-2 about 5 more times they may be onto something…..
Currently situated at 10 games under .500, 6-4 five more times allows them to breathe right at sea level and still have 16 games remaining. Those last 16 games include 7 vs. the Brewers and 3 vs. the Reds to close out the season. My hopes ain’t real high, but I never pack it in until the simple arithmetic tells me there’s no other choice but to strike the colors…
Not only did we win, we didn’t have to use Romeo so he’ll be rested for Thursday vs the Cubs.
And if that isn’t enough, I think O’Neill goes live Thursday as well. We will have to see wha the roster move is going to be. Some say maybe go to 12 pitchers.

Spot on Pugs. Mo needs to stick with the plan to sell and regroup. This is actually an opportunity for us to restock the roster with some fresh pitching talent that could be here for years to come. Don’t get cold feet now Mo.

Might keep extra infielder until Donovan and Edman are up and running.
Or just send Fermin down. He is hardly necessary and if an infielder is hurt, he could be back the next day.
I don’t know…If you demote Fermin, you almost need to give Manny Motter a call…And if they DFA him again, he may not clear waivers this time with all of these teams looking to improve their post-season chances…

Didn’t these weekday afternoon games used to be called “Business man’s specials”? Never hear that term used anymore.
They sure did, Bikemike. They also had quite a few “Lady’s days” that were played during weekdays with first pitch slated for early afternoon and sometimes even before noon. And although I can’t recall precisely what they were called, I’m pretty sure they had other types of special weekday early starts with a discounted ticket price for specific groups. Maybe seniors or boy scouts and girl scouts? I never hear anything anymore about A student specials either and they once had plenty of those as well.
