3 straight innings with runners in scoring position. 3 stright innings with no runs.

Some of the old school managers liked a lefty in the #2 slot exactly for that reason, to increase the chance of hitting it to the right side so as to advance runners before the big RBI guys come up. Mo’s computer never heard of that.

Right side of the infield completely open for Walker. Wish he’d learn to hit that way.

I see we broke it open while I was outside tending the grill. QS for Flaherty, and he is done after 6 IP, 92 pitches. Now we have to survive our pen.

It seems that Weems just didn’t have it today as our Birds roughed up the normally reliable Nats reliever…..8-3 Cards as it’s tarp time here in the 8th due to inclimite weather . Not to steal Rat’s thunder, as I’m sure he’ll be popping in soon with his Bird’s eye view of the out-of-town scoreboard, but there are a few games of note that we need to take a quick gander at…..the BoSox are feasting on cub pitching today…..matter of fact it’s an all out Animal House smorgasbord at Wrigley this afternoon, as Boston leads it 11-0 in the bottom of the 8th. Steele and a host of cub relievers were all treated very rudely by the visitors. And Baltimore edged Miami at Memorial Park today 5-4. Now with 4 Miami runs, one would figure that Arraez rapped out at least a couple hits, but the Marlin 2nd baseman went 0-5 today, lowering his league leading BA to .380. And how about those Chicago White Sox trotting into Atlanta this weekend and taking 2-3. They absolutely pelted the Braves today by the lopsided score of 8-1.

Carlson’s usage seems surprising to me. It sems like they were sold on him as everyday CF when they decided to let Bader go, but they didn’t seem to stick with that very wholeheartedly. And ever since, he has not really been everyday. Kind of on and off. even when injuries had us thin at CF he didn’t roll in as the temporary everyday guy. It seems like they like him better at corner, better not better enough. It just seems like something is off. He’s arb this winter too, by the way.

Carlson may feel a bit overshadowed by the way Burly, Donaldson and Walker have been playing lately, and Nootbar to some extent. But I agree something is off.

Burly looks like one of those guys some of us partied with back in the day. He just looks like a fun-loving good-time dude that likes to have a few beers on a Friday night and listen to some tunes.

42626 official attendance. Through the gates, my guess is 20K.

3-2 count on Thomas and Leahy throws head high. Double and a walk first two batters. Hope he’s on a short leash.

Leahy is a good example of the type of pitcher who can throw pretty hard but doesn’t have the control to throw strikes without catching too much of the plate. So he walks guys or gets hit around. Just too much traffic. Sometimes you get out of it, but it catches up with you. His WHIP in AAA and AA was around 1.600. Just way too high.

Good call to bring Romero in.
