I guess it will depend on the trade deadline. If Mo dumps all the expiring contracts for prospects / picks then I’d say last place it is. If he can get three starting pitchers with a pulse then third place might still be in reach…..
Yep, Birds having a tough year, but glad you were wrong bicyclemike. Flaherty pitched well and Hicks comes back from a fluke error to close it down. Now, let’s sweep the WS before the AS break.
If nothing else Jack may have increased his trade value tonight. Maybe we can ask for a better prospect for him.
Skippy’s Fish finally ran out of magic. I must say they have some great arms on their staff. We saw four good ones this series and that didn’t even include Alcantara. A staff like that can help make the manager look pretty smart.
Miami has a nice young team. When you have good starting pitching it really makes a difference. They will probably come down to earth some on those one run games, but that is not a bad team. Good to see them draw better crowds for this series.
Well, their staff looks the same to me as in ’22. This season’s only a bit past half way, but they ended last season at 24 games under.
I couldn’t help but to like Schumaker when he played here and I thought it was a mistake when he accepted the job as Marlin’s manager only because I thought if he held out he could latch on with a better team and have a better chance to be a successful Big League manager. I was afraid the Marlins would continue to be a NL doormat and it would ruin his chance at a future opportunity to manage another Big League team. Skippy’s success has proved to be a bright spot for me in an otherwise dismal season. It’s also once again reminded me that there’s baseball played outside of St. Louis. I hope Cardinal ownership is aware of that fact.
The Marlins have done a great job building through pitching which is the correct way to build a team. They were in the playoffs as recently as 2020. Knocked out the Cubs I believe. That young starter they used tonight was all of 20 years old. If they can get a few more bats they should have a bright future.
Yeah, they went 31-29 in ’20 and qualified for that year’s post-season. I started to say I don’t really count that year, but I don’t count it at all. I genuinely give it less weight than ’94.
Quit looking at the standings. This team would have to have an unbelievable run.
This team is done. If it got a couple games below .500 it would be a miracle.
