Yeah, it must be moving pretty fast because it got dark and began to rain real quick where I’m situated. It’s still coming down sideways, Wooster. I just use our bay window for a weather report and haven’t seen the radar, but I’d guess we may have a double header tomorrow.
July 1, 2023 at 3:52 pm #226139I just took a quick look at the local radar and it’s hard to tell if the rain’s going to linger. They’re not always too accurate anyway. I’ve found that the best way to tell about the weather is to simply walk outside or look out a window.
July 1, 2023 at 4:01 pm #226140Its a hurricane here at stately bling manor, 10 miles SW of Busch. Glad I got my grilling done. I made up a bunch of hot links for today, and some prok steaks for tomorrow.
July 1, 2023 at 4:19 pm #226141Haha!…Yeah, it’s blowing the rain sideways here too, Bling. After being happy that her flower beds would receive a nice drink, Mrs. 1TD’s now worried about the wind and rain breaking her pretty flowers like an inside and on the hands fastball splinters a bat. I tend to focus on the basement when it rains like this. We have a drain at the landing of a five tread stairwell that leads to the basement door. If I don’t regularly check it and make certain it’s cleaned it out, I’m down in the cellar with a shop-vac and squeegee broom while I’m muttering a lot of bad words…I checked that drain as soon as the skies began to darken, so I’m good today.
July 1, 2023 at 4:32 pm #226142Guess if the folks at the ball park wait it out they may get to see both games? Use to love double headers here in Fla. Had an old AA Team in town for many years. During rain delays everybody left would crowd up under the overhang on the upper seats level and drink beer and bs each other. Good times Small town minor leagues stuff. Glad I got to do it!
July 1, 2023 at 4:45 pm #226143Wooster it sounds like the atmosphere at the park in Davenport where the Cards had an affiliate not too long ago. It was one of my favorite places to watch baseball, but it seemed to rain an aweful lot.
July 1, 2023 at 4:47 pm #226144Sounds like fun, Wooster. I recall a game I attended that experienced an exceptionally long rain delay during the latter innings after the game was already an official one. Not only was the score closer than today’s game, but the game was also an important contest between the Redbirds and Mets, which I’m sure was the reason for not simply calling the game and placing it into the books. That delay was at least two and a half to three hours long. This was years before the no serve after 7 innings rule and the only thing for the large crowd to do was to stand around and drink beer under the shelter of the walkways and ramp tunnels. By the time that game resumed play the entire ballpark took on the look of a very large drunk tank…Haha!
Edit…I’m also reminded that back then the owners of the ballclub undoubtedly enjoyed this sort of thing because they sure did sell a lot of their world renowned product during that rain delay…
July 1, 2023 at 5:35 pm #226145Will they just call this game and then start the 2nd one if the weather allows?
July 1, 2023 at 5:59 pm #226147Sounds like the St Louis area is getting some of what we have had a lot of this Spring. After years of drought, it is our wettest Spring since 1969 – and early summer is still raining a lot. We had hail damage in May and had our roof replaced, plus some siding needs replacing.
Great day here in the mountain west – 81 degrees and sunny. Heading to Coors for a couple of Coors, and Tigers-Rockies. My buddy is from Michigan and a big Tiger fan, and got great seats for me, him and a mutual friend. If the second Cardinal game is a go I will be scoreboard watching.
July 1, 2023 at 6:01 pm #226148The Doppler Radar shows all the green stuff is out of St. Louis.
Are they about to get started again?
UPDATE: They have re-started the game. Top of the 8th now. Hope the 11-1 lead is safe..:)
July 1, 2023 at 6:39 pm #226149Mo needs to upgrade our mop up guy.
July 1, 2023 at 6:44 pm #226150How soon will the 2nd game start?
July 1, 2023 at 7:24 pm #226152Yeah, Johnny will probably make it a very high priority this winter to sign a mop up guy to a 2 or 3 year contract. Or, he may hold back after he thinks to himself, “Wait a minute…I’ve already got Matz”…
July 1, 2023 at 9:07 pm #226157I thought that it’s a bit interesting that at this point in time both Jack Flaherty and Dakota Hudson have an identical career ERA of 3.61, however Flaherty’s W/L record is 38-30, while Hudson’s W/L record is 32-17. Who’s the better pitcher?
July 1, 2023 at 9:29 pm #226158Hudson with some nice work to keep this game at a one run deficit and very winnable. Just need a guy or two to reach base and then a big RBI base hit. Sure would be nice to take both these games.
July 1, 2023 at 10:08 pm #226160They were both promising before shoulder trouble.
July 1, 2023 at 10:16 pm #226162I’m sure you know it was a rhetorical sort of question, Bling, but I genuinely thought it was interesting when I noticed that both of them had the identical career ERA’s at the time I posted the comment. At any rate, I wondered which guy of the two that a lacrosse fan from another planet would choose for his SP’er in a 7th game after looking at the numbers I posted in the comment…Haha!
July 1, 2023 at 10:33 pm #226163Well, that was a short-lived winning streak. What passes for our ‘ace’ goes tomorrow against the same foe the Yankees. Who knows?
July 1, 2023 at 10:34 pm #226164After the successful squeeze play provided the Yankees with an all important insurance run and a 4-2 lead in the 9th, Caray commented that the Yankees got the run by playing “small ball.” I sort of disagreed in the sense that it may be termed small ball, but that extra 9th inning run looked to be more in line with the term enormous than anything resembling small at the time. I also thought that it was a great move by the Yankee manager Boone to relay that play from the top step. I also couldn’t help but to think that there’s a decent chance that the current Cardinal manager wouldn’t know the difference between a suicide and a safety squeeze if it was presented right before his eyes and thoroughly explained to him…Twice.
July 1, 2023 at 10:44 pm #226165I was feeling oddly disoriented after that big win in game one, but its better now after the second game. DeJong’s 3 Ks is sort of comforting. And the 3 and 4 batters combining to go 0fer the game. It was like the feeling you get pulling into your driveway after a long cross country road trip.
July 1, 2023 at 11:00 pm #226166Dramamine is a good over the counter that will sometimes alleviate that sort of condition, but I’m not entirely certain how effective it would be for a double header…Maybe increase the dosage?
July 1, 2023 at 11:28 pm #226167Rox lose. Cards lose game 2.
July 2, 2023 at 9:04 am #226174Stratton has not been pitching as well as he had earlier in the season. They got a 1-2-3 inning out of him, which was more than they could have reasonably expected. So why did they bring him out for the 9th?
And why did they leave him in there after all chance of winning was gone?July 2, 2023 at 9:23 am #226178Marmol is in bad slump right now. He zigs when he should have zagged more often than not.
They can continue to be brave at the post game microphone but they are 11.5 games out and behind 8 other teams for the second wildcard – that is too much to overcome as those teams play each other so some will have to win.
9.5 out of the division and mired in last place way behind the pack. Winning the division is by far the ‘easier’ path to the playoffs but still very likely an insurmountable obstacle at this point.
9.5 out in second place with only one team to catch would be an entirely different scenario.
They need to wake up, realize where they are, and figure out how to get some use out of the second half of 2023 – they seem to be in lala land right now.
