The fun continues. Rah Cardinals!
Late lunch today was a very unFrench enchiladas and refried beans, with green salad, and a juicy slice of rhubarb pie for desert.
July 1, 2023 at 2:39 pm #226114A three run homer by Soto and then a solo dong by Machado and the Padres are up on the Reds 5-1 in the last of the 6th.
The way the Reds have been coming back it’s still anybody’s game.
Time to light up a 7×50 Palma Real cigar and sit on the couch with Whitey Herdog and finish the Cards and Reds game this afternoon. It’s hot here today in SW Indiana.
July 1, 2023 at 2:41 pm #226115Burly burners double!

July 1, 2023 at 2:48 pm #226117My goodness. Who ARE these guys?
July 1, 2023 at 2:50 pm #226118‘Bout time.
July 1, 2023 at 2:51 pm #226119They give Eddie an RBI base hit on that bouncing ball that tried to look it’s way directly into Volpe’s oven mitt.
July 1, 2023 at 2:53 pm #226120They’re our Cardinals CIF! Its baseball man don’t try and figure it out. Its our turn to give out what the Astros did to us! Baseball rule #1 when its going your way NEVER let up. They will climb back into the game. Finish it out!
July 1, 2023 at 2:54 pm #226121Should we consider 11 runs a safe lead?
July 1, 2023 at 2:55 pm #226122I’d say to bank 4 or 5 of these 11 runs for the twilight 2nd game, but it’s only the 5th.
July 1, 2023 at 2:58 pm #226123Wow, just checked in at 11-0. Trying to erase the run deficit created last game I guess…..
July 1, 2023 at 3:00 pm #226124Yeah ZTR but 4 of those didn’t count. Burly pitching exhibition!
July 1, 2023 at 3:01 pm #226125It was hot out there grilling and was standing in the shade. I ca’t imagine what its like on the field.
July 1, 2023 at 3:01 pm #226126I vividly recall a Cardinal/Reds double header played in ’68. The Reds led in the first game by at least 8 or 9 runs and then blew the lead to lose that game. The Cardinals led in the second game by at least 8 or 9 runs and then also blew the comfortable lead to lose the game…I’m going to have to look up that double header to remember the exact details.
July 1, 2023 at 3:05 pm #226127Jack don’t be throwing center of plate now! If hes tired switch him out!
July 1, 2023 at 3:15 pm #226128Yankees are toasted out there now. Can’t take the heat?
July 1, 2023 at 3:15 pm #226129Yankees throwing it around a little. Nice. Its great seeing the Cards looking like the good team out there.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWalker could use a hit to keep his streak alive
July 1, 2023 at 3:17 pm #226131I was wrong. That Cardinal/Reds doubleheader was played on June 9th of ’68. In the first game, the Reds led 8-0 until the Cardinals scored 10 runs in the 5th and went on to win by a final of 10-8. In the second game the Cardinald led 6-0 in the 4th. The Redbirds never scored another run in that game and the Reds came back to win by a final of 7-6 to gain a split. I was wrong, but I was pretty close….I’m surprised I didn’t remember this, but Steve Carlton pitched in both games of that double header. He was the Cardinal SP’er in the first game and received a no decision. He came on in relief in the second game and took the loss…Haha!
Edit…I’m also going to have to use this one as a trivia question some day.
July 1, 2023 at 3:25 pm #226132Thanks for the free anawer 1TD- doubt I will remenber it though!
July 1, 2023 at 3:26 pm #226133It’s dark and windy here at our house located about 15 miles west of the ballpark and it really looks like it’s about to hammer down with some serious rain. Mrs. 1TD’s happy that she won’t have to water her flowers, but the twilight may be in jeopardy of at least a delayed start.
July 1, 2023 at 3:27 pm #226134Naile lost the zone…
July 1, 2023 at 3:30 pm #226135Nail it Nail!
July 1, 2023 at 3:31 pm #226136Haha!…Yeah Wooster, I recall watching both of those games when I was still a kid, but didn’t recall Carlton getting some work in both games. That double header was played on the road at Crosley Field. They televised some of the road games back then, but it was unusual to have both of those double header games televised. I vividly recall watching both of them on our family TV. I thought I was in heaven until the Redbirds blew that 6 run lead in the second game…Haha!
July 1, 2023 at 3:35 pm #226137Wow did I just see rain delay? Musta got there quick 1TD?
