The good news is that the pen can be upgraded easier than the rotation can. But it will be Mo calling the shots this winter. I anticipate another pen debacle next year.
16 blown saves for the year now. We had a total of 17 last season for the entire year.
Like I have said you can’t go on a winning streak with this pitching staff. It won’t happen. It doesn’t matter how he pencils in the lineup you can’t expect your offense to have to score 10 runs a night. You can count on either the starter or the pen is going to stink on any given night. The chances of them both doing their jobs in the same game are slim.
A winning streak is an illusion with this team.
As you’ve pointed out, the lineup is irrelevant with the current roster.
There is no penalty for failure to perform.
Win or lose, the paycheck is the same at the end of the month.
Just enjoy the green grass and sunshine and, if you’re a drinker, a couple of cold beers.
While Gallegos has been generally better than the rest of the dumpster fire in the pen, he was still one of my top candidates to trade the last couple years. Giving money to 30+ relievers is such a shattershot process. On the plus side, we should finally get a top 10 pick next year.
Wow, after reading Bob Reed’s excellent assessment of Gallegos’ experience with zero rest and 20+ pitches the day before, it really makes me wonder how Ollie can stay employed.
With all of the data these guys have, they had to know that. I mentioned ahead of this series that I can see this homestand being a disaster and the low point that finally costs Ollie his job.
We will see how it proceeds from here, but you just cannot make those kind of decisions and expect not to be accountable. Maybe Stratton or someone else would have also given up the ghost, but that would fall under the category of the manager doing the right thing, but the player and bullpen is not up to par.
But this is squarely yet another example of our manager missing a good game.
