4-3 Cards after one. I have no idea as to how we scored. How’s that for some sterling PBP?
June 28, 2023 at 7:18 pm #225758All of our left-handed hitters got hits in the first.
Arrenado smashed a fastball for a 3-run homerun with Donovan and Nootbaar on.
After Gorman singled, Burleson doubled him home. While there was a throw home, it wasn’t really close.
June 28, 2023 at 7:20 pm #225759Sweet report, LACardFan……..but don’t make them too sweet or I’ll be out of a job and out in the stands hawking Bud Lites.
June 28, 2023 at 7:21 pm #225760I gave the executive summary version, Pugs
June 28, 2023 at 7:23 pm #225761Technical difficulties still present, but not as bad as before. I’ll give her a go here in the bottom of the 2nd, but my posts will probably be tardy with all of these delays.
June 28, 2023 at 7:26 pm #225762You can almost call it – when Goldy makes an out in the first and the other Cardinals hit the pitcher silly, he almost always seems to homer later in the game.
June 28, 2023 at 7:31 pm #225763Bottom of 2
Edman – Raps a hot grounder ,but right at the 1st baseman Abreu who will glove it and trot on over to the bag for the out.
Donovan – Hits it in the air to center where Meyers will drift slightly back and have it for out #2.
Goldy – Ramrods a blast to left-center and that one is long gone for yet another Goldy solo blast here in 2023…..5-3 Good Guys and Javier is getting roughed up early on here. Anyone know what the record for most solo home runs in a year is? That question may have to be tackled by Skippy and all of the good people over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau.
Nooty – Grounds it up the middle, but that’s exactly where the 2nd baseman Altuve had him played….scoops her up and his throw to Abreu at 1st is a good one to retire the side
Cards 5
Astros 3June 28, 2023 at 7:35 pm #225764In answer to your question Pugs, it appears both Bonds & Hidalgo have had seasons of 35 solo home runs
June 28, 2023 at 7:36 pm #225765You have great instincts for the game, LACardFan.
Oh wow and now you retrieve obscure stats quicker than Elias & Co. could ever pray to pull off. Who are you, LACardFan??
June 28, 2023 at 7:42 pm #225767Well Pugs, I don’t have great baseball instincts, but I do have great research skills.
June 28, 2023 at 7:45 pm #225768Man, Cardinals have been brutal the second time through the order, with the exception of Goldy, who atoned for his first inning fly out…
June 28, 2023 at 7:45 pm #225769I hate to be a party pooper, but these pesky technical difficulties are making it impossible to follow the action to adequately suit PBP duties. As you guys know, it takes at least 5 innings of PBP for it to be an official game for me. Thus, our Cardinal victory this evening will NOT enhance my yearly or lifetime PBP mark…….which almost summons forth a tear or two. Anyway I’m going to follow along the best I can and chime in occasionally here with the esteemed LACardFan.
June 28, 2023 at 7:50 pm #225770Mikolas dispatches the Astros with just 5 3rd inning pitches…….which kind of makes me wonder what the record is for the fewest number of pitches thrown by one pitcher in a 9 inning game?
June 28, 2023 at 7:51 pm #225771The game within the game – Burly now within 5 pts of catching Contreras in OPS
June 28, 2023 at 7:55 pm #225772Javier’s WHIP is taking a royal whiplashing tonight. First 2 Cardinal reach in the bottom of the 3rd. My technical difficulties prevented me from seeing the first ar bat, but I did see the second batter(Carlson) rip a base. Then Edman sacrifices the runners over to 2nd and 3rd. Then Javier walks Donovan to load em up. Then Goldy singles to left to score another …m6-3 Birds with the bases still juiced.
June 28, 2023 at 8:06 pm #225773To answer your second question Pugs, it appears former Cardinal pitcher John Fulgham owns the record for fewest pitches in a complete game. There is some discrepancy in reporting as to whether it was 39 pitches or 42, but he did have five strikeouts and allowed two hits in the game.
Flugham also owns the distinction of throwing a complete game in his major league debut with the Cardinals.
June 28, 2023 at 8:13 pm #225774Oh wow…..great info, LACardFan! I vaguely recall Fulgham. And I’ve all but lost my game feed which is a crying shame. I’m going to have to follow the action on that cartoon dealy on the internet. Hopefully my technical difficulties will be solved by tomorrow night’s game and I hope you’ll be on hand LACardFan……. you’re both informative and fun. Wonder where the everyone else is tonight?
June 28, 2023 at 8:15 pm #225775I think most have given up on the season. I am actually in LA today, which is part of the reason I can keep up with the game.
June 28, 2023 at 8:18 pm #225776Burly had a chance to pass Contreras in OPS there, but whiffs on the 11th pitch…
June 28, 2023 at 8:20 pm #225778Tuned in during the 4th. Nice to see the 3 run lead and Javier’s departure. Hopefully Miles can work a couple more innings and protect this lead into the 6th or 7th.
June 28, 2023 at 8:24 pm #225780Looks like both Javier’s and Drew Smyly’s ERA and WHIP have ballooned this evening……Mikey likey.
There’s TD…… welcome aboard mate.
Still have family in LA, LA?
June 28, 2023 at 8:27 pm #225781No, I moved out to LA single. Moved to Boca single.
June 28, 2023 at 8:28 pm #225782Looks like we’re a couple of bachelors, LA. Has it’s distinct advantages and a few disadvantages.
June 28, 2023 at 8:31 pm #225783Yes, there are always positives and negatives
June 28, 2023 at 8:36 pm #225784Pallante not giving the team a chance
