Whew! Glad Pallante finally discovered the strike zone after 15 pitches

Real fortunate to get the K and escape with a lead after running that count to a bases jammed 3-0.

I don’t know if I was more nervous on the 3-0 or the full count with all of those runners taking off with the pitch…Haha!

Wow, if John Fulgham pitched a game of around 40 pitches, that is amazing. Less then two pitches per out.

I believe Eric (“Don’t call me Harry”) Rasmussen threw a complete game of around 67 pitches in the ‘70s.

That was the game I thought was the record.

Donovan’s 8th round tripper on the campaign extends the Redbird lead to 7-5 heading to the 7th.

Well, at 3-0, Pallante had thrown 14 pitches and only three of them were strikes. I had kind of given up hope at maintaining the lead. At least there was some hope he might throw a strike at 3-2.

And Donovan gets won back for the Cardinals!!!

Yeah 42 pitches in a 9 inning game looks like a more difficult record to beat than even Gehrig’s 56 game hit streak, BicycleMike. Kudos to Mr. Fulgham…….and to LACardFan for getting us that marvelous info.

Yeah, Harry Rasmussen…… there’s a name from yesteryear.

Red Barrett threw 58 pitches in 1944

Seems like Mikolas has made a lot of bad starts lately, after being real good for maybe 3,4 starts in a row.

Not exactly an “ace”, but on our club he has the defacto title as no one else has stepped up. Monty may end up earning it – he has been much more consistent than Mikolas.

On an unrelated note, if I did not know how Mikolas’ name was pronounced, I would have pegged it as “mi-COLE-is”.

I would literally contemplate surrendering my left pinkie finger for a Contreras 2 run blow here………just contemplate it……I don’t think I would actually have it clipped off.

And Contreras nearly losses his left pinkie as he’s hit there by an errant pitch.

I bet my wife 10 bucks Gorman would strike out and now she won’t pay up. Ideas?

Wouldn’t you know it, my technical difficulties have now vanished. Maybe I’ll resume PBP and due to the circumstances, be credited with a PBP victory? I’ll let the esteemed Tough Dominican make an official ruling on that.

    Cards at 1st & 3rd with 2 out.

Carlson – not an official at bat as Contreras got himself mired in a pickoff pickle between 1st & 2nd and then they fired it home to nail DeJong to retire the side.

    Cards 7
    Astros 5

Give her a shot at double or nothing next time DeJong comes up Bling.

    Was that a busted hit-and-run?

Is divorce on the table, Bling? Unfortunately I know all too well about that topic.

Gallegos on for St. Louis…… when I hear his name the Galapagos Islands always comes to mind. Oh oh Madris opens the Houston 8th with a base hit to right. Now Galapagos is just begging for trouble as he walks Myers. Then Maldonado promptly bunts them over to 2nd and 3rd…..just one out.

Somehow I get the sense our bullpen will give this one away. That “somehow” is due to watching too many games so far this year where we do just that.

Dusty with a nice call on the sac bunt. Good chance they get at least one here with the top of the order up.

Good call, BicycleMike……if you can call it good…… Altuve with a 3 run blast to left propels Houston into an 8-7 advantage.

Ouch. Gallegos ties Helsley with his fourth blown save of the season.

Wow, Gallegos throwing BP here. Kind of a typical 2023 Cardinal game, unfortunately.

And then he allows the Astros to tack on more
