But so far Arraez’s SLG is higher than his OBP, that’s probably what’s saving him from the wonks. Donnie had said that his OBP being higher than his SLG last year got the alarm bell ringing.

jj-cf-stlParticipantDonovans obp last season was never sustainable. The wonks can see right thru that, and even I spent the winter calling him a regression candidate.
His SLG is up .016, his OBP is down .031, nothing to see here.
June 23, 2023 at 12:19 pm #225330FYI here,
Nootbaar has a career .262 batting average in the minor leagues. Not sure why so many think he is going to hit .300 and be the 2nd coming in the big leagues.
June 23, 2023 at 1:12 pm #225331I have no idea if Noot will ever be much of a big leaguer, but think he has a chance to be better than his minor league numbers. The reason for that is I like his athleticism, and his using the entire field as a hitter. He can also turn on a pitch for power at times. And the intangible – he seems like an enthusiastic guy that always wants to improve.
Whether or not any of that is accurate I don’t know – just my observation and opinion from watching him on television.
June 23, 2023 at 1:15 pm #225332BTW – in the “for what it’s worth” category, we are traveling this weekend to attend my nephew’s wedding. I will likely miss most of the London series but will check in when I can.
Cubs are hot. It might be “London bridges falling down” for our club. 😒
June 23, 2023 at 2:17 pm #225335Yeah, those Cubbies are playing pretty well and they have three guys in their rotation that are, 9-4/2.28, 7-2/2.71 and 7-4/3.38. That’s not even considering Hendricks who didn’t take his first turn in the rotation until the end of May. He seems to be hitting stride at 3-2/2.60 in 6 turns. I guessed during the off-season that the Cubbies would win more games in ’23 than the Brewers, but I also guessed that the Cardinals would win more games than the Reds…At any rate, the NLC looks to be entirely unpredictable as witnessed by the team that everyone thought would be the chalk horse firmly entrenched in last place all season long.

Its been going up since his bad start, and I suspect it will continue to go up. I bet he ends up very close to last year’s unsustainable OBP. Hopefully his SLG will not fall below it, for his sake, or at least he learned enough to tell them to take a hike.
June 23, 2023 at 4:09 pm #225343This Brit first watched a Cardinal game on TV in 1985
Me and my mate were given a VHS of Game One of the 85 WS
I chose to follow the red team. He got the blue.
It may not have ended well that year (RIP Don Denkinger) but I got by far the better long term deal didn’t I?I’ve obviously seen the Redbirds play many times at Busch II and Busch III
I’ve been there with my (first) wife and my daughter.I’ve seen them on the road in Phoenix, Denver, New York (with all three of my kids) and in Toronto last year (with my 2nd wife)
Tomorrow they come to visit me – and we’re going to see Uncle Charlie beat the Cubs in London.

June 23, 2023 at 4:16 pm #225344Olde E I hope its a great game. Will you be in the stands?
June 23, 2023 at 4:29 pm #225345Yes indeed. The most expensive ticket I have ever bought for a sports event
three seats in the second tier above Cubs bench, so not the best seats by any means$180 each !!!!
June 23, 2023 at 4:30 pm #225346I’ll be, as usual, huddled over my MLB-TV, but only one time zone away instead of seven.
Din din, in honor of the occasion, will be roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, a favorite of the Grands who are visiting from Texas.
Rah Cardinals!
June 23, 2023 at 4:46 pm #225347$180, yikes! I can imagine they nick you for a pint too.
June 23, 2023 at 5:12 pm #225348Best I can tell, when the Red Sox played the Yankees at this venue a few years ago they drew about 60,000 per game. That’s pretty good and I wouldn’t have guessed that many.
June 23, 2023 at 6:59 pm #225354I’ve obviously seen the Redbirds play many times at Busch II and Busch III
I’ve been there with my (first) wife and my daughter. So you’ll be there with the 2nd wife this weekend? Lol
Love the name btw. I thought maybe you had consumed many bottles of Olde English 800 Malt Liquor back in the day and that’s where you came up with it. Lol
June 23, 2023 at 8:43 pm #225358Braves and Reds in a slugfest. Atlanta hit three solo shots in the 8th and it’s now a 11-10 Reds lead in the last of the 8th. Reds have a runner on. Votto has two homeruns and De La Cruz has hit for the cycle. And John Sadak, the Reds announcer, is hard to tolerate. And Larkin is pretty bad too. Bring back Brennaman and where is Chris Welsh???
Pirates get three runs in the top of the 9th and down Miami. That ends their ten game losing streak.
June 24, 2023 at 8:29 am #225362On a rather somber note, due to the high accessibility (National tv) of these two games, there should be no great need for game thread PBP. It is my sincere hope that this news does not cast a dark cloud over what should be a fun 2 game series. What’s on tap for din-din tonight? Breakfast for din-din, consisting of 3 poached eggs over 2 pieces of white toast, sausage links, hash browns and french toast.
June 24, 2023 at 8:41 am #225363Obviously the lack of PBP diminishes the chance of a win, so basically from bad to worse. I hope to get home for first pitch none the less. Hopefully they remembered not to drink the water.
Din din will be steak house fare this evening.
June 24, 2023 at 9:03 am #225364Arraez claws his way out of a slump and is back up to .402 with a 3 for 4 game at the plate last night.
June 24, 2023 at 10:12 am #225365Knowing the Blingster, it’ll be a fancy smancy steakhouse he’ll be visiting this evening. Order the steak tartare off the menu, Bling…..you won’t be sorry.
Yeah, Arraez, TD. Just another in a long line of players in which those two Florida teams have heisted…….one would think by gunpoint, but actually they’ve been pulling off these lopsided trades legally. How good would Arraez look sitting atop that St. Louis lineup and how many rbi would his inclusion add to Goldy’s and Arenado’s ledger? We probably could have had him this past off-season for Gorman and a mid-level pitching prospect.

Burnt toast and a rotten egg

cardsfan64ParticipantI see that Ivan Herrera has been activated by the Cards but no corresponding move announced yet. Sickness has hit the Cards with Hicks out, Gorman affected and Walker still struggling with illness. Flaherty has been scratched form Sunday’s start with back tightness.
Jack Flaherty has been scratched from Sunday’s start with right hip tightness. Sundays starter is now TBA, will depend on how today’s game goes. #STLCards #LondonSeries

June 24, 2023 at 11:28 am #225369Din din today for me and Whitey Herdog will be some Barbecue chicken in the oven, some sliced potatoes, green beans, ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and some more Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. Then a Palma Real 7×50 cigar to finish out the game.
Don’t forget, the Giants are on a roll also. They have won 10 of their last 11.

cardsfan64ParticipantJust found this:
Jordan Hicks is also not available today. He’s back at the hotel sick; Nolan Gorman was yesterday. Similar to what was afflicting Jordan Walker in New York. It’s going through the clubhouse.

Iván Herrera is active as the Cardinals’ 27th man today.
