Pitchers are missing the shoulder rub from Maddux.
June 16, 2023 at 3:05 pm #2246091. Brendan Donovan (L) 2B
2. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
3. Nolan Gorman (L) DH
4. Nolan Arenado (R) 3B
5. Willson Contreras (R) C
6. Jordan Walker (R) LF
7. Dylan Carlson (S) RF
8. Paul DeJong (R) SS
9. Tommy Edman (S) CFJune 16, 2023 at 3:09 pm #224610Here’s an idea that may not be popular with Cardinals fans but just a thought.. what about resigning CMart. Not so much to be a starter or because I think he’s going to be dominant on the mound but more for the vocal clubhouse presence to light a fire under some of our young relievers in the bullpen and who knows, maybe CMart can recapture some of his glory days. After all , he’s only 31.
June 16, 2023 at 3:14 pm #224612I’d like to see Gorman and Goldy switch places in the lineup.
June 16, 2023 at 3:18 pm #224614Maybe see how Walker would do in the lead off role. When my team is 27-42, losers of 5 straight… I feel I can make these type of Managerial decisions, lol. Go Cardinals!
June 16, 2023 at 3:19 pm #224615Martinez had a 7.15 era in the Mexican league before being released in May. No thanks
June 16, 2023 at 3:21 pm #224616Yeah, he could really do that shoulder rub well on those mound visits…Here’s another good mound visit…Stengel once walked out to the mound to get Tug McGraw and McGraw said, “Let me work to this guy, Casey, I struck him out last time I faced him”…Stengel said, “Yeah I know, but that was this inning”…
June 16, 2023 at 3:27 pm #224618Scratch what I said about CMart. I didn’t realize how much of a jerk he is.
June 16, 2023 at 4:06 pm #224620Mikolos had a pretty good stretch of games in May, but so far in June he’s done nothing but stink. Two starts, two losses. Too much traffic. He’s capable of turning in a good one, but we can’t count on it. Whatever he does, the pen will follow and they will probably stink.
The lineup has followed the same basic structure for quite some time. It just keeps on losing and it keeps on getting rolled out. Not that swapping this guy and that would help, other than signalling that management recognizes failure when it sees it, and will respond in some way that hints at the existence of intelligent life somewhere in the organization.
June 16, 2023 at 4:20 pm #224621Mikolas and the BP will be okay and the ingeniously creative line-ups aren’t at all a contributing factor to the Redbird woes…The only way to fix any of the countless shortcomings is to be patient…I also keep hearing something about getting punched in the face. All of that is really good stuff, but today I heard something tremendously profound…”At some point you’ve got to strap it on and go”…These guys are good.
June 16, 2023 at 4:30 pm #224623Just keep on jamming contreras in the five hole. Like a million monkeys and a million typewriters, he’ll eventually come up with a complete sentence.
June 16, 2023 at 4:46 pm #224624Contreras has had more PA’s out of the 3 slot this season than any other position in the batting order besides 5…What’s that tell you about monkeys and typewriters?
June 16, 2023 at 5:01 pm #224625I agree. Why is a .200 hitter in the #5 slot???
And according to the Doppler the rain is out of the New York area. That doesn’t mean more might move in though.
I am going to go and job, water the landscaping, and then hit the shower. Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the 1st pitch tonight – assuming it’s not delayed.

June 16, 2023 at 5:11 pm #224626Based on what we have – this is what I’d do tonight
1. Brendan Donovan (L) 2B
2. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
3. Nolan Arenado (R) 3B
4. Nolan Gorman (L) DH
5. Jordan Walker (R) LF
6. Dylan Carlson (S) RF
7. Andrew Knizner (R) C
8. Paul DeJong (R) SS
9. Tommy Edman (S) CFJune 16, 2023 at 5:44 pm #224630I’d go with
1. Walker Lf
2. Donovan 2B
3. Goldy 1B
4. Nado. 3B
5. Gorman. DH
6. Carlson CF
7. Burelson RF
8. Edman SS
9. Contreras CJune 16, 2023 at 6:11 pm #224632There are $85M reasons why Contreras is batting where he is. They already jerked him around once this year with DHgate. Probably not going to do it again.
June 16, 2023 at 6:13 pm #224633If Oakland can string together some wins, we can too. Need to get one first.
June 16, 2023 at 6:15 pm #224634Well, the top of the first was pitiful. Lets see what Mikolas has.
June 16, 2023 at 6:24 pm #224635Needed that…A 1-2-3 GIDP…ala Schmidt back to Sutter.
June 16, 2023 at 6:25 pm #224636Get the rare GIDP and still surrender an ER. Can’t buy a thrill.
June 16, 2023 at 6:25 pm #224637Make that 3.
June 16, 2023 at 6:26 pm #224638Walking the leadoff man is never a good idea.
June 16, 2023 at 6:29 pm #224639Mikolas throwing bp in the first. Not a good sign.
June 16, 2023 at 6:31 pm #224640As of right now, his game ERA is 27.00 so it will probably get better rather than worse.
June 16, 2023 at 6:34 pm #224641It seems the last couple games I’ve seen Contreras take a call third strike… That seem to be right down the middle. Is he that fooled?
