Just two runs over six innings for Liberatore. Nice job by him.

I like that they pulled Liberatore. 6 innings and 80 pitches are good numbers for him tonight. He was solid. That’s all we can ask for.

Well, Pallante is a ground ball machine who sometimes strikes guys out. Back to back grounders find a hole for a 2 out SF run. He is who he is and it typically leads to good results. But the 2 out walk is really what burned him. May also be some fatigue factor.

And a third grounder in a row gets us through the inning tied 3-3.

Our bullpen is pretty brutal these days. I wouldn’t trust them with any kind of lead. I think it’s a big contributing factor as to why we lose so many close games. We are close to tops in the league in blown saves.

SF’s been sneaking the baseball through the IF all night and stringing together hits.

Wheels coming off the wagon here?

I don’t disagree GScottar. They are definitely contributing to losses in all these close games. They aren’t bad. But we just seem to give up exactly the wrong number of runs. You look at the Brewers and their bullpen gives up just as many or more runs but they do it when leads are big one way or the other.

The other issue is bullpen depth. Stratton and Pallante are pitching on back-to-back nights because we don’t want to throw Hicks again, Helsley is hurt, and we don’t trust Matz, Woodford, Cabrerra, or VerHagan in this close of a game unless there’s no choice.

Its pretty depressing. Even if the offense picks up, the pitching isn’t going to. It makes it hard to envision a substantial run of winning baseball.

Walker doesn’t really seem to have enough arm even for LF. He gets off a strong accurate throw now and then, but some pretty lame throws home lately. It hardy seems like a 3B arm at all. It also just takes him too long to get to balls out there. He doesn’t close on them fast enough.

And now we won’t be able to use Pallante or Stratton tomorrow and ideally not on Wednesday either. So the next 2 games we’re going to see a lot of the 4 I just named. They’re not terrible. But they’re not good either. Maybe Matz is good as a reliever? I’m not sure.

We really needed something from Arenado there with a man on 3rd and one out. Got nothing.

We’ll, I hope Contreras proves me wrong here…

And the Arenado at bat encapsulates our season. 1st and 3rd with one out and he pops out. Again. We just always come up one run short. Always. If we get up a run. The bullpen gives it back. Again and again.

And now it’s up to Contreras who has been our worst hitter for a month.

    4 straight balls.

    Maybe they pitched around him.

Just cannot buy a hit with RISP lately.

We can’t get the big hit when we need it and we can’t get the stops when we need them. Same song different verse.

Another bases loaded goose egg. The biggest disappointment in that sequence was Arenado failing to get the ball to the outfield.

All we need is a tater in the ninth.

Yeah, if Arenado had hit Carlson’s ball, the game would be tied. But not to be.
