Burly really went down and golfed that tee shot.

Can our beleaguered late inning relievers hold onto a one run lead? Hold onto your hats.

Hold on to your hats? That hasn’t worked this year. Might be time to grab both cheeks, haha!

I don’t know what has happened to Goldschmidt. He just seems like a shell of who he was earlier in the season.

I’m really not sure who to have confidence in lately at the bat. Knizner? I’m not sure anyone has been better. So weird.

So glad i played the reverse jinx tonight. Heck of a win, especially with how good Gray was.

Wow the Cardinals actually won a game. Miracles never cease. Oli lives to see another day I guess.

We should make Flaherty our King.

Well, I’m guessing the Rangers haven’t been shut out many times this year or held to 4 hits. Our pitching has improved quite a bit. But where has the offense gone? Pitchers have clearly figured out Gorman’s weaknesses. The outfield is full of replacements. Contreras is lost. And Goldschmidt just seems to be a different player- like someone put a stunt double in his place.

Yeah for as much as we have ridiculed the pitching this year, deservedly so, our offense has completely dried up. How can every guy in the lineup be in a slump at the same time?

Anyway kudos to Jack, the bullpen, and Burly for getting the job done tonight. It is funny how the manager looks smarter when the players execute.

And just for Bling – Gray takes a well-deserved loss and Jordan Hicks comes in for one inning, gives up a double and earns the win.

Our guys were lucky to get away with this one. A good showing by Flaherty and the BP though staved off a call for Oli to Mo’s office for at least one more series. I wonder if a team has ever won a division with a losing record? The NL central may be headed toward that.

    Gray takes a well-deserved loss

Thank goodness Mo spent the money on Contreras instead.

I was waiting for it to happen and it never did. Murphy’s law took a hit and the result is a W.

I we could take gray in a heartbeat. I haven’t seen him too much but just watching him, his stuff was effortless. Yea he got the loss but going 9 innings. That hardly happens anymore. He’s going to win far more than he loses.

Just got back from the NBA finals neighborhood party. Looks like Burly kept Ollie’s job safe for another few days.

Sounds like Gray was real good. He was a top Rockies’ prospect for awhile, and was okay with them. But Coors is tough on pitchers.

On a side note, the Nuggets go up 2-1 in the NBA finals with a big win in Miami. Denver is really good.

I didn’t know who were in the the NBA finals until I saw your comment, Bikemike. I haven’t followed them in years, but one of the best sporting events I’ve even seen was Game 5 of the Boston/Phoenix 1976 NBA finals played at Boston Garden. I vividly remember watching that game at my grandparents house with my grandad and younger brother. Triple overtime and there was what could be termed a riot on the hardwood after a controversy involving the clock in which a group of spectators attacked a referee and demolished the scorer’s table. It was some kind of game!

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. We won a one-run game. And offered an L to a sterling job by a more than worthy opponent. As joyful as that late solo potato was, one must give a tip of the hat to Jon Gray. Why can’t we find and keep pitchers like that?

I don’t know what has happened to Goldschmidt. He just seems like a shell of who he was earlier in the season.

Maybe he seems like a guy who will be 36 before the season is over. I don’t mean he’s done, just that he will have ups and downs, with the downs coming more frequently and lasting longer. It would be normal for the bat to start slowing down and the defense becoming less crisp.

So many gaffes and just plain poor fundamental baseball being played by the Cardinals.

I don’t recall seeing a Cardinal team look this lost in all phases of the game.

Despite winning the game last night I have to say that the quote that sums up this season the best comes from the great John McKay when he was coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A reporter asked him asked him what he thought about the execution of his team and he replied “I’m in favor of it.”

    That’s one in a row.
