This game’s turned into serious trouble.
June 2, 2023 at 8:39 pm #223058This is what happens when you load the bases inning after inning and get nothing! We stink!
June 2, 2023 at 8:41 pm #223059Yep, 3xbases loaded with no runs = trouble.
June 2, 2023 at 8:41 pm #223060What a fister this has turned out to be.
June 2, 2023 at 8:42 pm #223061Duds
The whole lot of them.
Offense can’t get a hit when they need it.
Relief pitching has blown another game.
I guess 2023 might end up like 1978 after all.
June 2, 2023 at 8:48 pm #223062The resident genius goes out there and takes the baseball from Pallante’s hand and hands a can of gasoline to Gallegos.
June 2, 2023 at 8:48 pm #223063I hope we are a seller at the trade deadline! We can get some prospects for Flaherty and Montgomery! Cut ties with PDJ and Burleson and start trying to rebuild quickly! If not next year is doomed also!
June 2, 2023 at 8:53 pm #223064OMG – another blown lead. The bullpen sucks and leaving the bags loaded 3X with zero results is awful. When can we recall Yadi and Albert?
June 2, 2023 at 9:05 pm #223065If I recall correctly we left the bases loaded four (4) times. Once there was just one out and Walker hit a little weak ground ball. Then Edman flied to center.
June 2, 2023 at 9:10 pm #223066I’m going to tomorrow’s game and I’m tired of this embarrassing effort. Given the ridiculous ticket prices, food/drink prices and the Cardinals erratic play, I’m giving you one more chance. Hit the damn ball!
June 2, 2023 at 9:13 pm #223067There are games you win, games you lose, and games you give away. This is one we gave away.
June 2, 2023 at 9:14 pm #223068You strand the bases loaded three times, you got problems. If the problem is that the other guys re figuring out, and securing the better matchups, hats off to them for having a real big league manager
June 2, 2023 at 9:16 pm #223069This is what happens with weak starting pitching and weak bullpen work. 100 pitches, 61 strikes from the starter in yet another non-quality start of 5 and 1/3. 61% strike rate is not good. I know some will think Jack was good tonight but he wasn’t and it left a vulnerable bullpen exposed yet again. 5 runs should have been enough to win the game. I get they left the bases loaded and didn’t score, but if the pitching was worth a shake that wouldn’t have mattered.
June 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #223070Well, that was brutal.
June 2, 2023 at 9:20 pm #223071
jj-cf-stlParticipantSame old story. If it takes at least 8 runs to win, you’re not going to win much.
June 2, 2023 at 9:26 pm #223072Yeah 4Ev, regardless of the inability to stretch the lead, 5 runs should hold up. He went out and got Pallante who had just recorded 3 outs and allowed only 1 hit and a BB while the score was still 5-1 with two baserunners aboard. He gives it to a guy who promptly BB’s the first hitter he faces and then allows a bases jammed double, a 3 run tater and a solo tater. Gio’s certainly not trustworthy, but the Redbird field managers’s just plain dumb.
June 2, 2023 at 9:47 pm #223073This was the perfect game to use Stratton. What’s going on here?
June 2, 2023 at 10:05 pm #223074When I headed out we were up 5-0 and come back to this debacle. The ink is hardly dry on those ‘turnaround’ articles and we’ve dropped 3 out of 4.
Yeah, the pitching. We already know about the pitching.
I see Walker went 1 for 5, and the 1 was a grounder that hit the shortstop in the glove.
Contreras has to be close to .200. If he drops below .200, do they continue to send him out there? What else can they do? This thing is going to be ugly.
June 2, 2023 at 10:15 pm #223075By mid June Contreras, PDJ and Burleson will all be under 200 or worse! This team is just not any good! Huge holes everywhere you look! I just laugh when I see Contreras Dejong and Burleson batting 5,6 and 7! A high school pitcher can navigate that! We have so many holes I don’t think a quick fix is in order! Years of low spending and spending poorly when we do along with a couple of franchise destroying trades have finally come home to roost!
June 3, 2023 at 12:56 am #223077DeJong had 2 hits tonight didn’t he?
This is on the bullpen but yeah you can’t loaded the bases 3 times and come up with nothing. You got to get 1 run in at least. That is plate approach.
June 3, 2023 at 2:53 am #223079Absolutely on pen. Haven’t posted in a long time due to life circumstances but it’s disappointing. Biggest thing to note is cheeping out on stopgap managers over and over. I fear the Dewitt’s might have killed the culture I grew up knowing
Oli can’t press the right buttons but why should he be able to. He’s under the microscope immediately and was way underprepared to manage the cards. Tony to matheny to Schildt to oli. It’s saving money in the wrong place. Who knows but it seems like the culture has gradually faded. It stinks
I hope someone screenshots this and I’m completely wrong though. You let a culture fade too long and it doesn’t come back. Ask Indiana basketball
June 3, 2023 at 3:57 am #223080Indiana basketball? Amen to that GACard!
June 3, 2023 at 5:34 am #223081Absolutely on pen.
The pen is supposed to finish out a game, not pitch half of it. But yeah, it stunk. So did everything else.
Years of low spending and spending poorly when we do along with a couple of franchise destroying trades have finally come home to roost!
All true, but it seems like player development is probably dysfunctional also.
There is a whole philosophy, which Schildt ran afoul of. That philosophy is at the root of it. Its a top down problem.
June 3, 2023 at 7:40 am #223082Indeed bling. It starts at the top and has killed things down to the core. Player development, scouting, and much more have been on the downside for the better part of a decade. Ownership is the biggest offender in this mess and it goes from there. They’ve been asleep at the wheel for way too long.

jj-cf-stlParticipant.333 / .409 / .538 / .948
Collectively, this is the lineups batting line from last night. No single player on this roster has matched this line for his/this season. In fact, only last seasons NL MVP exceeded it last season, from our roster.
To acknowledge last nights problem, would just be repeating the same valid point over and over. If you don’t know what it is by now, look at the final score.
