It wasn’t too long ago when everyone was real disappointed when the Redbirds only managed a split of a 4 game set at Busch Stadium in mid April. The Pirates only drew 1.25M through the gate last season. I’ll be interested to see how many fans show up for tonight’s game at PNC.

I’d say BA is still pretty important, Rats. Lots of hits are what generate a nice looking BA and the last time I checked, there aren’t too many guys with 3000 hits that aren’t members of the HOF.

This pitcher Contreras fella looks like he’s bringing it. Our batters better be up to the challenge.

Well our first three batters looked like they where blindfolded up there. At least Gorman went down swinging instead of standing there like a lump.

The HPU is a rookie too. Already some questionable calls.

Arenado caught in a rundown before the pitch. They are a little confused about this pitcher’s motion. Scouting issue?

Yeah, Goldschmidt’s been making a habit of watching a called 3rd strike pass right over the heart of the plate. A couple have been belt high. He’s guessing way wrong and looks like he forgot that pitchers still throw a fastball with 2 strikes on the hitter.

Baserunning will never be Nado’s longsuit.

I just now noticed that Wacha’s 5-1 with a 3.45 ERA. He takes a turn tonight in SD against the Cubs.

2 out 2 run TATER for the 2 run lead!

Other than the walk-off base hit or HR, those 2 out RBI’s may be the most demoralizing punch in the gut to the opposition. Those things hurt.

The mother of all 2 out rallies.

Ok, looks like they have figured out this pitcher after all. Ha! Arenado with the big fly in a 2-out rally.

And Edman gets it all revved up with the 2 out double. When Eddie reaches, Eddie scores…

It used to be if the ball hit the guy in the glove its an error not a hit. Good ol days.

Pitchers need to organize a collective bargaining system designd to negotiate with the official scorers…

Off to run an errand. Nice game, nice job by Jack. Good luck.

Real nice to push 5 runs across in the 3rd inning, but the Cardinals have had a few chances to stretch out the 5 run lead. Jack’s done a nice job protecting it, but no lead’s ever safe.

Contreras now 2 for his last 39 and down to a .215 BA. Not good.

Contreras does have 25 RBI’s for the season to go with that .215 BA. To put that in perspective, Goldy’s collected just 1 more RBI at 26 for the season while featuring a team leading .294 BA to go along with leading the team in hits, doubles, runs scored and is tied for second in HR’s. Hitting him the 2 slot is hurting the team.

I keep thinking that Contreras is going to turn it around and go on a tear but no such luck yet.

Now a leadoff hit by the Pirates in the last of the 7th.

If the Cardinals lose this game they are 0-4 with the bases loaded. This could easily be about a 9-1 game at the moment.

And them stupid Reds had a golden opportunity to beat Milwaukee. Tied 3-3 going into the last of the 10th. Had the ghost runner at 2nd and failed to score. Then they lost 5-4 to the Brewers in 11 innings.
