10 runs scored on a day that Kershaw started is impressive.

Cardinals have moved out of the cellar and are now in a tie for third place.

4 hits and 4 walks in 4.2 IP. 103 pitches. sigh.

No, Flaherty did not put together consecutive quality starts….

If only we had decent starting pitching just think what this team would be doing…..

At least we have been getting some good starts lately. Better than none.

We are fortunate the offense has been scoring as much as they have. When you give up 5 runs, you are lucky not to lose.

The top three in the lineup go 0 for 14 and strike out 6 times, but we score 10 runs. Crazy.

Don’t like using Libby out of the bullpen. We need starters who can keep us in games.

Attended my 9 week old baby grandaughter’s baptism ceremony along with a gathering of family and friends afterwards, so couldn’t watch live, but looks like the fellas sure came to play and I’m looking forward to watching the replay as I had Mrs. 1TD make certain the record feature was up and ready. At any rate, a good day all the way around the horn and I’m entirely certain that paw-paw 1TD’s little baby girl will provide Redbird Nation with another diehard lifelong Cardinal fanatic. I can already tell she’ll never be the type to be fitted with any silly oven mitt…Haha!

I’ll add that while driving from the church ceremony to my son’s house for the reception, I couldn’t resist listening in on the radio. The Dodgers seemed poised for a comeback and the instant I heard Rooney’s call on the VerHagen balk that allowed them to pull to within a run, the truck unexplainably came near to lurching into the ditch on the side of interstate…Mrs. 1TD made me pull the plug on the radio…Haha!

It was Libby’s side session day and since we’re down a reliever and often only get 5 innings from our starters, the bullpen is taxed. So Libby was just there to eat an inning or two. Really only VerHagan and Cabrera were “fresh” so we really didn’t want to use anyone else. It’s not a terrible decision and not the first time a starter has done this (although it’s been a while). The other options are lean heavily on pallante and Cabrera and then shuttle them to Memphis. But those replacements aren’t as good. This helps keep guys fresh even if the downside is that Libby got put in unfamiliar territory.

Congrats on that granddaughter, 1TD. Grandkids are the best!

And the Redbirds delivered a baptismal victory

Glancing at the box score, Nado and Eddie with another solid day at the plate with a combined 6 hits, 5 runs scord and an RBI. Both of those guys up to a .278 and .287 BA respectively. And how about DeJong? Man alive…A 3 run tater and 4 RBI’s with 4 runs scored on a 2 for 3 day and now hitting .282…He’s gonna demand a mulit-year for the big money!

“Don’t like using Libby out of the bullpen. We need starters who can keep us in games.”

Mike, you mean you’re opposed to bringing a young starting pitcher back on short rest to throw a needless mop-up inning out of the bullpen with a 7-run lead, after throwing 95 pitches in his previous outing? Just because intelligent managers never ever, ever do this with young developing pitchers, that doesn’t mean it’s a managerial blunder.

Seriously, Ollie Marmol’s stupidity and arrogance know no depths, no boundaries whatsoever. Even in a beautiful blowout victory he finds a way to drop some mercury down the well.

I also see we’re climbing the ladder and have finally vaulted above those pesky Reds…And looking at the NLC standings, due to the alphabetical placement preference, it looks like we’re in 3rd place atop the Cubbies…Haha!

Bob – and this is the crazy thing about baseball. We can both see the same move being made and one fan thinks it’s terrible and another thinks it’s wise. While I don’t love having to use Libby this way, I 100% believe that doing it made our team better by protecting our pen. I think it was a very smart move. It’s not like it was a surprise. We said we might do it a couple days ago. I understand why naysayers hate it. But sometimes you have to do the right thing even when even in the face of criticism.

With the Redbirds playing well, I’m beginning to feel as though this long stretch of games may work to the Cardinal’s advantage. I’ve always thought that when a team is on fire, one of the worst things that can happen is a rainout or an off day to allow the flames to cool down. “Just keep matriculating, boys”…

Congrats on the grand daughter’s baptism, 1TD. My cousin just went through that last Sunday – grand daughter as well.

I can see the point with Libby having a side session day and doing that in a game. But prefer to keep him on a starter’s regimen, and throw Stratton in that situation. I would not have used Stratton on Friday though, and would have brought in Gallegos to protect the 1 run lead that night. So me and the manager are on a different page on this.

But on a positive note, how about Mercado! He is throwing his Cardinal hat in the ring to be an outfielder. Man, what are we going to do? Yepez and O’Neill are probably short timers as far as their St. Louis employment.

If we could deal them and throw in Matz for a stand out reliever and a decent prospect, go for it.

Remember a few years ago when Molina stole strike three in the 9th for the win? I think it was against Washington. It was a close pitch, like the one to Betts. Molina jumped up and celebrated and the homeplate umpire called it strike three.

Maybe that’s what Contreras did to Betts?

Insofar as having Liberatore up and loose and then summoning him from the BP while enjoying a commanding 7 run lead in the 8th, anyone who’s been paying a modicum of attention knows that this is the precise sort of behavior that has been displayed with an alarming degree of frequency by someone who could unquestionably be termed mildly, as none too swift. And doing so was not only a silly idea, but also turned out to be a practice that almost allowed the Dodgers a chance to make a last gasp effort to place the outcome of this game into question. Obviously, the Redbirds are playing much better these last couple of weeks and I don’t at all enjoy putting a damper on a nice Sunday afternoon W vs. an elite team, but I’ll continue to maintain that this guy should have been sacked three weeks ago. He’s way out there.

Well somebody needs to bully the umpires.

They need to learn the strike zone not each have their own.

They need to be way more consistent. Pitches in the exact same location are sometimes balls and sometimes strikes. I know it is waaaaay more obvious now than it used to be because of the strike zone graphic but good Lord some of these guys need to start using their good eye…..

I’m sure this happens but they need to be forced to watch every single call they make during a game on film with the box graphic. If they miss too many they need to be demoted or fired.

Hitters that don’t hit and pitchers that get hammered get fired and demoted. Why not umps?

Thanks, Bling! That’s funny…I’ve held that little girl several times while she enjoys her “din-din” from her little baby bottle and she can really “tilt ’em back”…Haha!
