Although the Cardinals start at the quarter turn is undoubtedly disappointing they aren’t the only team that was considered a preseason front runner favorite to have endured some problems. Insofar as games back in the standings, the Redbirds are in as good or better shape than the Mets, Phillies and Padres in the NL, and both the Yankees and Blue Jays in the AL. Meanwhile, the O’s have the 2nd best W/L record in the entire Big Leagues, which I’m happy about.

Yeah, of course he wasn’t the problem, Black Hills. I pointed out almost two weeks ago that Contreras has been situated behind HP for 30 post-season games, one of which was a 7th game of a WS in which his team secured a WS Championship. He’s a patently proven Big League winner. Then, when the Cardinals experience an early season disaster the FO and coaching staff want to publicly point their fingers and proclaim that he’s the reason? Moreover, they then have two nobodies in the person of the Redbird field manager and pitching coach who’ve never won anything teach him how to be a Big League catcher? It’s so incredibly demeaning. My hat’s off to Contreras who deserves an immense amount of credit for not entirely misplacing his composure and instead handling the whole sordid affair like not only a genuine man, but also a consummate professional. I don’t know how he restrained himself from telling all of them what they indeed revealed themselves to be.

I’m happy we won, but some day I would like someone to explain to me why it takes a plethora of pitches nowhere near the strike zone and multiple baserunners to close a game? What happened to three straight outs and we’re done? When was the last time we had a closer who did this with any consistency?

    Bruce Sutter?

The Cubs had an epic meltdown last night in Houston. Leading 6-1 going to the bottom the 8th the Cubs end up losing 7-6. Gotta love it!

gscottar, I saw that right before I hit the hay last night. Put a smile on my face! No wonder I got a good night’s sleep last night instead of the usual insomnia.
