Picking up a theme from the Pitching thread, lets pretend we are Oli, or a generic Cardinals manager. You are provided with a pitch to contact pitching staff, which only works with elite defense. Then Mo trades your center fielder and you have to go with either a platoon player or an out of position guy there, holding down your defense up the middle. Than they send you Walker and Burleson and say play these guys.
That can’t possibly work, so what do you do?
(Obviously, you have to know enough about baseball to know it won’t work, so lets assume that you do). (Keep in mind that your predecessor got fired despite winning for philosophical differences.)
What do you do?
Well bling that is the whole point. We can criticize the manager for some of his in game moves and post game comments but at the end of the day he doesn’t control the roster and doesn’t control the philosophy in which that roster is to be utilized so it is the proverbial enigma wrapped in a conundrum or something like that.
Most Card are in uncharted territory. Dedicated fans are angry, casual fans are becoming disinterested in a 9-22 team. That will lead to empty seats and budget $1.50 tickets just to entice folks to fill those empty seats and that will go to the food stands and buy a $8.00 hotdog and also to keep attendance #s up.
Oh yeah… and our pitching hasn’t been too good this season.
Whatever moves are made and whomever gets DFA’d, will get picked up by another team, coached properly and have a good career. Our coaches, are not good coaches; they mean well and try hard, but just don’t have the “it” factor for a coach. They are not getting the “Best” out of each player, instead they are content to put everyone in a bucket and say, ” ok, go get ’em.”.
Other teams will figure out what is best for the player, find little issues that turn out to be a big factor to make that player better.
