Talking about dinner reservations.
April 23, 2023 at 4:24 pm #217464Good for Gorman!
April 23, 2023 at 4:25 pm #217465Donovan has talked about how he spent the winter working with a hitting guru using sensors and cameras and computers to optimize his swing. How did that work out?
I think it’s been more about pitch selection than the swing. Pitchers have been going in on him hard, and I also remember a few AB where the umpire hasn’t helped him a bit on pitches in off the plate.
April 23, 2023 at 4:26 pm #217466He’s on fire, I predict he gets a day off tomorrow.
April 23, 2023 at 4:52 pm #217467Flaherty sits at 91 pitches through five innings. I think he will be fortunate to make it through six.
April 23, 2023 at 5:07 pm #217468He did make it through six. I think that is our third quality start in 22 tries.
April 23, 2023 at 5:08 pm #217469Flaherty does make through 6 on 104 pitches, and a quality start. Looked impossible after the 2nd inning.
April 23, 2023 at 5:13 pm #217470And he also displayed a demeanor that genuinely indicated that he’s weary of losing. Sometimes you have to get mad at those eggs…
April 23, 2023 at 5:14 pm #217471DeJong with the comeback player of the year tater…
April 23, 2023 at 5:15 pm #217472Hey who is this guy wearing Paul de Jong’s number!
April 23, 2023 at 5:16 pm #217473Nice day for Paul DeJong today. A little better so far on the mound but I think we all expected it today. Now hopefully I didn’t jinx them and they close it out.
April 23, 2023 at 5:29 pm #217474Weird deal there with Cabrera. Not the best day for this home plate ump.
April 23, 2023 at 5:33 pm #217475PDJ & Gorman are making a case for an infield of Paul and Nolan on the right side, and Paul and Nolan on the left side.
April 23, 2023 at 5:40 pm #217476I can’t remember the last time I saw Helsley.
April 23, 2023 at 5:50 pm #217477Pirates win their 7th in a row today. Best W/L record in the NL and 1st place in the NLC.
April 23, 2023 at 5:57 pm #217478Gallegos adapting well to the much quicker delivery.
April 23, 2023 at 6:01 pm #217479I agree Mike. I was concerned Gallegos would have trouble with the pitch clock but it seems to have actually help him focus and keep his defense alert. I think I like him as closer and Helsley as setup. We have had so few late inning leads those guys need more work.
April 23, 2023 at 6:04 pm #217480Good day at the plate for Noot, Gorman, and DeJong with a hat tip to Flaherty for making it through six.
April 23, 2023 at 6:12 pm #217481Maybe counterintuitive at first, but it’s not surprising the the clock could be positive for guys like Gio by reducing their 2nd guessing and doubt.
Surprised by PDJ today, but we’ve seen this before. I really hope he has it figured out this time. With him, I don’t think it’s about figuring things out as much as it is to not press mentally when he has a couple bad games. His future success will be whether or not he’s figured out how to clear his mind quickly after a couple bad games instead of spending weeks on the IL or visiting Memphis.
April 23, 2023 at 6:15 pm #217482I like that late inning set up as well Scottar. The way Gallegos is throwing I like him in the 9th, with Helsley in the 8th.
Nice to see us bounce back after losing the early lead. The game had that “here we go again” feel to it early, but Jack kept his focus and got it done, while the offense came to the rescue.
Gorman is really looking good. A lot of progress this year.
April 23, 2023 at 6:18 pm #217483The post game show seems to be devoted to DeJong while Nolan Gorman continues to generate significantly more power production than anyone on this team. After going 2 for 4 with a 3 run tater he’s now at .313/6/22 and is far out in front in every other offensive category. He’s beginning to make a case as being one of the best young talents in baseball.
April 23, 2023 at 6:18 pm #217484He’s a genuine offensive force, Bikemike.
April 23, 2023 at 6:27 pm #217485A much needed win. Off to the Bay for four with those Giants. Hopefully they can take 3 of 4 in that series.
April 23, 2023 at 6:35 pm #217487
MrperkinsParticipantIndeed, a much needed win, and with contributions all through the lineup. And a much needed win for us beleaguered fans. I appreciate Dominican’s Cool Hand Luke reference with the same satisfaction as Paul Newman had on his face after consuming those eggs.
April 23, 2023 at 6:35 pm #217488Jack looked real good in spurts today. Maybe he’s finding the juju.
