Alarming is the proper term. It’s bad when the offense doesn’t perform. It’s frustrating when a BP can’t seem to hold a lead or allows a game to deteriorate to a point beyond reach. And suspect defense is always a headache. But when the worst area of a team’s performance is SP’ing, it places it in a position in which it has no chance. If you had to choose one area in which to be lackluster, it certainly would be one of the three former mentioned areas. Better hope we get some decent turns from the rotation in the not too distant future, or it could be a disappointing season to put it mildly.

I agree 1TD. Historically, there are teams with excellent pitching and so-so offense that won pennants and World Series titles. There are not all that many, maybe none, teams that racked up the runs, but could not keep from giving them up as well that won titles.

I don’t think the starters are as bad as they look. Slow starts, yes Also not getting any help from Contreras. Outfield defense has contributed to making matters worse with uninspired play. Most especially back at the track and wall where it matters most. The offense is mostly waving nerf noodles at the kids in the stands. Oli is not putting the best team/configuration on the field, and making suspect moves. Because of the way baseball works, all of that converges at a point 60 feet 6 inches from home plate, so the starters are standing at ground zero.

I agree Bling – it’s a combination of several things going the wrong way. The club at this point is a product of poor decisions in player personnel in the front office and on the field, some on-the-job training going on, and some bad luck.

I do think things will improve as far as the W-L record, but there will be a “what if?” component to this club that will stay with us for a few years.
