Another nice turn by Matz and two nice defensive plays from the left side of the IF to preserve it. Still feels odd to have an off day tomorrow. Maybe I’ll go to church. It can’t hurt…

Too bad we have not had the pitching to stay competitive.

    They can pitch now. Somehow.

Romero is making a case, so far. Good to see.

Man, the Braves have players everywhere. Their 1B’man now has 42 HR’s and 105 RBI’s. He should end up with at least 50 HR’s by season’s end and Acuna probably has a better chance at the NL MVP award than he does. At any rate, the Braves come at you with quite an arsenal at their disposal.

Nice win for us.Just caught the highlights reel. Looked like Matz was good and JoJo and Nado pulled it out of the fire for the win. Edman with quite a night and Goldy hitting again. Go Cardinals!

Yes on the Braves and loaded with top pitching prospects in their system.

Great outings by Thompson, Matz, and Liberatore. Waino unfortunately needs moved to the bullpen.

And I really dislike being off on a Sunday.

Although we win, former Cardinals had quite a day yesterday with Sandy Alcantara throwing a complete game in a 3-1 win over the Yankees, and Zac Gallen going six shutout frames in a D-Backs victory.

And then Randy Arozarena had a walk-off base knock in Tampa’s win.

Yeah Bikemike, whether or not players are former Redbirds there’s plenty of Big League baseball outside of StL. and plenty of good teams competing for division titles and WC’s in order to qualify for what is always an entertaining post-season. With my favorite team way down in the count, I’ve been following the outside action closer than I normally would and keeping a pretty close eye on final scores and the shuffling in the standings around the league. I’ve often mentioned that I’m really pulling for the O’s in the ALE and I’ve also been keeping up with the battle atop the ALW between the Rangers and Astros. I expect both of those divisions to be hotly contested in the last month of the regular season. I also think our own NLC will provide some exciting baseball action in these last 40 or so games with the Reds, Cubbies and Brewers all within 3 games of each other at the top the division. At any rate, it’s a bummer how the Cardinal’s season unfolded, but I try to look on the sunny side in the sense that at least there’s baseball and it’s not yet the dead of winter in January. The heck with that…Haha!

Same here as far as looking at other clubs. In fact I left our game Friday night and dialed up Baltimore-Seattle. I like both of those teams and would not mind at all if they faced each other in the ALCS.

The Mariners were stuck around .500 for half the season but have turned it on of late, similar to how our club has done now and again.

The Cubs have been a surprise and could very well take the NLC this year. Only us and the hot-early Pittsburgh club are out of it.

The Cardinals better get their act together as the Pirates are young and trending upward. We may just find a string of last place finishes if we do not somehow get better pitching, and get some big maturity from one or two of our young batters.

Incidentally, today is the anniversary of Lou Brock’s 3000th hit which came off of Cub’s pitcher Dennis Lamp on Aug. 13, 1979. Lou’s 3000th hit came on a pitch following a high a tight brushback 1-2 fastball right under the great LF’er’s chin. On the very next 2-2 offering the future HOF’er scorched a line drive up the middle that struck the Cub’s pitcher and literally knocked him from the pitcher’s mound and out of the game as Lamp suffered bruises to three fingers of his pitching hand. The baseball deflected to the right side of the IF and the speedy Brock easily reached 1B safely for his 3000th base hit. That game was televised, but I didn’t get to see it. However, I heard Jack Buck’s call on KMOX while I was riding in the car and it had something to do with poetic justice…Haha!

Yeah Bikemike, I noticed the other day that the Mariners are on fire. They may be playing better than anyone else at present.
