4-0 already in the first. Not what what we wanted, but about what I expected. Adam should have the self respect to take himself out of the game because he obviously can’t get anybody out. How long have we been saying that? Keeping him in there is disgraceful – to him, the team and the fans.
When my paternal grandfather retired in the early 70’s, he and my grandmother left the St. Louis area and moved to about 60 miles east of KC to an area near where he and my grandmother were originally from. He took me to quite a few Cardinal games when I was a young boy and he was a Redbird fan going back to the 20’s. When they moved, he began regularly attending Royal’s games and became a big Royal’s fan when they began to be really good in the mid 70’s. He even snagged a foul ball at a pretty ripe old age during a game at what was then called Royals Stadium…Haha! They had some really good teams. He was really crazy about George Brett and told me he was the best LH’ed hitter he’d seen since Musial. At any rate, I always used to root real hard for them during a couple of those epic ALCS battles that they had with the Yankees, and for some reason or another I always liked little Freddie Patek.
Heck yeah! Who could forget Zelmo Beaty? I’m sure a lot of you recall that Harry Caray did the Hawk’s KMOX radio broadcasts in the late 60’s. I listened to almost every game over the winters when I was a young kid. The Hawks were really good back then and I hated to see them leave.
8-0. I’m sure Mo wanted a Waino win tonight so they could fill the seats on each of Waino’s next starts at home. There’s no other logical reason.
It’s becoming clear to me that Wainwright probably won’t get W number 199 much less 200. I’m not sure he could get anyone out in Springfield.
Yeah, Zelmo Beaty was called “Big Z”. I was a big San Francisco Warriors fan as a kid and would dial in KNBR with Bill King calling the games. The Hawks were a tough team back then – Beaty, Bill Bridges, Lenny Wilkens, Lou Hudson. I wonder why pro basketball has never come back to St Louis? I mean you have teams in Memphis, Oklahoma City and Charlotte. Seems like St Louis could support a franchise.
Mo has quickly evolved this team from being bad to being a cruel joke to being a slap in the face to the fans. Pathetic.
Arenado chatting with Witt Jr. Both of those guys could end up in the Hall when their careers are in the books.
Obviously it won’t be easy, but this game’s only in the 3rd and with some decent pitching from the BP, pulling a W out of the fire of the 1st inning isn’t out of the question against this KC team.
They had the StL. Spirits of the ABA for a couple years, Bikemike, but they didn’t get enough support before the league merged with the NBA and they folded and didn’t join the big boys in the NBA. Maurice Lucas played for them and I got to see Julius Erving play at the old Arena in a game against the ABA NY Nets. I always liked basketball and followed both the NBA and the college game real closely until about the late 80’s to early 90’s. Basketball was the game I excelled at the most both as a boy and young man.
Anybody suspect Wainwright might just go ahead and retire now? If he gets pounded by two of the weakest teams in the game what else is there for him to try?
I don’t know if he will, but he should. All he’s accomplishing is inflating his career ERA and deflating his career W/L pct. He can’t record an out.
I played a lot of baseball and basketball as a kid and into adulthood. Was pretty good in both, but a little better baseball player than basketball. Loved the NBA for a long time, but lost interest in the ‘80s after the Warriors made that horrible trade with Boston where they gave up Robert Parish and the third pick, which turned out to be Kevin McHale, for Joe Barry Carroll. I hated that trade when it was made and it turned out to be akin to Wise for Carlton.
As for Waino, who knows. My sense is he will be used sparingly; maybe a relief appearance here and there, and make a final last appearance at Busch in September before walking away.
Looked like O’Neill just missed on a couple of pitches earlier, but really squared up in that third AB. He and Contreras are hitting with quite a lot of confidence right now.
It might be easier to get him #199 and #200 by working him in relief, but it would require good timing. He wouldn’t have to throw five innings. He would just have to be the pitcher of record when the offense takes the lead.
Personally, I don’t care for pursuits of individual records ever being placed above the team, even in a bad season. But I understand that others feel otherwise. And I assumed that included ownership, but that may change. Some fans may lose interest in buying tickets to try to see #199 and #200 if he keeps getting pummeled.
I thought both the NBA and the NFL were at one time really entertaining team sport action, Bikemike. I’d have to say that Game 5 of the ’76 Boston/Phoenix finals has to be in the top five greatest games of any sport that I’ve ever watched. I still remember watching that game like it was last week. At any rate, I lost interest in both the NBA and the NFL long ago and Big League baseball is the only sport I follow closely anymore. I like to think I’ll always take a look at a good Big League baseball game and be entertained, but I’m old enough to know that a person’s interest can change over time. So, who knows?
