Anyone who has ever witnessed the extended and exciting cat and mouse action between a pitcher, catcher, 1B’man and a great base stealing threat like Brock, Henderson, Raines, etc. knows that the new rule limiting the times a pitcher can step off or throw over is not only silly, but also diminishes the entertainment of a baseball game. It was once a battle that was not only physical, but psychlogical as well. And it was great entertainment for the baseball fans. Great base stealing threats would take their large leads off of 1B dancing around and taunting the pitcher, while a pitcher with a good move to 1B would give a couple of token type decoy moves before displaying that snap turn and throw to 1B designed to catch him leaning the wrong way and send him back to the dugout before he had a chance to steal 2B. All kinds of things were possible during the battle. A wild throw over that got past the 1B’man and rolled down the RF line…A balk…A 1B’man snapping the tag down with his mitt a little too exuberantly on the face of a guy like Henderson while he was diving back to the bag and a scuffle breaking out…The crowd on it’s feet booing the pitcher after about 7 or 8 moves to 1B…And best of all, after 10 throws over, the entire place on it’s feet and erupting after Coleman swipes it anyway…Haha! They’re ruining so many exciting parts of the game for fans with all these silly new rules.

Libby at 80 pitches, hopefully Oli doesn’t do anything as ridiculous as pulling him.

Libby has found his fastball again tonight. It abandoned him for 3 months. But now he has the velocity back. Perhaps it’s just that he’s playing the Rays.

But if he can throw this fastball next year, then he can definitely be a good pitcher. I’ve been encouraging patience because he’s still young. Tonight is a good sign even if it is just one start. And it’s not like this is against the Nats or Rockies.

He almost can’t pull him Bling even if he wanted to because we used our good bullpen guys last night and the other guys out there are mostly bad.

Crazy play by Rays scores us a run! Error wrongly charged to 2nd baseman. Pitcher didn’t cover first. Sometimes baseball isn’t fair!

Woodford gives up a walk and a homer in his first inning back at AA.

I think there’s a good chance he gets cut after the season. But maybe he’s still our long reliever next year.

with our pitching woes we can’t afford to cut anyone. We need to give every abled body hurler a chance.

Libby dominant tonight! But the way this season is going, I think our bullpen will blow this one and we lose 5-4 with the Rays having a 4 run ninth, after plating one in the eighth.

Libby at 92 pitches going out there for the 8th. Good luck to him.

8 innings, 2 hits, no walks, 7 strikeouts . . . Against the Rays. Best start of our season I believe. We’ve had a couple other contenders, but those weren’t against a team like this. Nice job Liberatore.

Lot of fly ball outs. Well Ollie keeps Libby in and so the one run in the eighth never happened. Now they can only tie it in the 9th, and then win in 10.

Unless JoJo comes in. He can bring it home. But the rested guys are all arsonists and will start fires that may get out of control.

I did think we may see Gallegos on back to back days for the 9th. But with Edman’s HR, I’m betting it will be Naile.

I don’t really like burning JoJo here after he went 1 1/3 yesterday. We may need him again soon and now he’ll be resting for at least the next 2 days.

Nice turn by Liberatore. Maybe he took on the mindset of another “Lefty” who seemed to pitch as though it were personal every time he took his turn against the team that traded him.

If he rests for 2 he’ll rest for 3. No game on Sunday.

I can’t remember the last time our starter made it through 8 this year. Good job by Liberatore.

Mikolas went 8 with 0 runs allowed against the Royals. But there’s no comparison between the Royals and Rays aside from the first letter of their name.

Nice W, but can’t make up any ground on…the Pirates who beat the Braves in a 7-5 final.
