RHP Miles Mikolas (6-7, 4.29) vs. RHP Pablo López (5-6, 4.13)

(and Bally Sports Southeast/Southwest Extra?I’ve been looking at this John King, since he will be here by Tuesday. On the surface he looks rough. Digging deeper, still looks rough. But wait, there’s more.
The problen is too much traffic, WHIP 1.607, but not due to walks, 1.9 BB/9. His problem is he gets hit around. 12.5 H/9. But he is a proficient ground ball pitcher. 65.7% who is very good at keeping it in the park, 0.5 HR/9.
So what gives? Well his BABiP is .379, yikes. Bad luck? Maybe, only 18 IP in MLB this year. But his numbers were pretty similar over 50 innings last year. So maybe he’s geting hit hard, but mostly on the ground.
My take is he doesn’t get used much and his defense behind him is probably not super good. He will surely get regular action here at least. The infield defense should be at least real good, and maybe top notch, in part depending upon what the roster looks like by Tuesday.
One thing that seems odd, this guy is absolutely not a swing and miss guy, 5.4 SO/9, which works out to a 12.4 K%, so I am perplexed as we are supposedly going for swing and miss now days. He could be solid midle relief for us though, which we have not had this year.
In 87 ML appearances, all in relief he has a mid 4 ERA, this season it’s almost 6.
He should help alot in the Cardinal’s quest to get a top 5 pick in next year’s draft.
Well. He hasn’t done anything good or bad in a Cardinal uniform yet, so I’m looking for the positive, me being that kind of guy. I suggest they have Knizner catch him as much as possible, and something resembling rational utilization.
Now that DeJong is gone should we assume Edman will be activated and playing SS tonight?
And how is Masyn Winn feeling right about now?
In my mind the SS job is his to lose for 2024.
IMO, Edman should be the starting SS for the Cardinals this year, next year and five years from now.
Either Edman or Donovan will be dealt……just not happening today. I like us to shellshock Pablo Lopez tonight to the tune of 6 earned runs through 4 1/3 frames. 8-3 Birds your final with Goldy shanking a long one high up into the rafters in left.

By my count that would put us at 24.
Would love to see O’Neill and Contreras scratched. But I don’t know who’s taking Contreras at this point, Houston maybe.
