Mazzone coached some of the best rotations of all time. It was his practice that starters threw two bullpens between starts rather than one. But, what did he know.
July 28, 2023 at 8:19 pm #229584Walker gladly gave way to Nooty on that fly ball to right-center. Kind of reminds me of my first year in Little League. I played center field and my first game I prayed and prayed that no ball would be hit my way. And nobody did through the first 6 innings …..not one fly ball. Then in the last inning I remember my manager frantically motioning me to go back….back back back ….he had me positioned just a few feet from the center field fence. And then the ball is hit a mile high into the air and and I just stood there quivering…..and amazingly I didn’t have to move an inch and the ball fell into my glove. I think if that ball had been hit 5 feet to my right or left, I wouldn’t have caught it. Then I was fine after that.
July 28, 2023 at 8:29 pm #229585A Wisdom 5th inning solo homer slices the Cards lead in half ……2-1.
July 28, 2023 at 8:39 pm #229586How does Olli not ask to review the Bellinger HBP?
July 28, 2023 at 8:44 pm #229587Because Oli is not managing tonight.
July 28, 2023 at 8:48 pm #229588Thanks Forschster…….wow that’s two miscues on my behalf tonight ……..we may not see that again until around 2043.
July 28, 2023 at 8:51 pm #229589Yeah, that seems to be the only way to get him out of there. Whoever signed off on the 1 game suspension must be on our side…
July 28, 2023 at 8:51 pm #229590Great throw by O’Neill in left keeps this a 3-2 cub ballgame as we move along to the bottom half of inning #6. It looks as if Montgomery is going to finish the evening with an even-steven 100 pitches. Let’s score a couple here in the 6th and make a winner out of him.
July 28, 2023 at 8:56 pm #229591Cards threaten (Gorman ground rule double to left), but do not score in the 6th. Montgomery cannot win it, but can lose it
Gallegos your new Redbird reliever in the 7th.
July 28, 2023 at 9:15 pm #229592Oh oh, Knizner swinging for the downs strikes out here in the 7th. Let’s hope those 2 taters last night don’t end up being detrimental to his offensive game. Merryweather dealing for Chicago.
July 28, 2023 at 9:30 pm #229593Fortunate to escape that inning still down by 1 run. When Bellinger moved the runner up to 3B with one out I was pretty sure the Cubs were going to soften that 1 run cushion with some insurance.
July 28, 2023 at 10:00 pm #2295961st and 2nd no outs is it against the law to sacrifice? Are we that arrogant? Runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out is an okay position to be in if down 1 run.
July 28, 2023 at 10:00 pm #229597What a robbery! That was a game winner of the bat of Burleson too.
July 28, 2023 at 10:01 pm #229598Computer says you have better odds of scoring swinging away than to move them up.
July 28, 2023 at 10:01 pm #229599That’s the way this year has gone.
Cubs just won the season series too. They lead 7-4 with 2 games remaining.
What a year……
July 28, 2023 at 10:04 pm #229601Boy oh boy…That’s a heck of a way to end it. Can’t hit it much better than that and you won’t see a better play in CF to win the game than that one by Tauchman.
July 28, 2023 at 10:08 pm #229603That’s 7 in a row by the Cubs and 9-1 in their last 10 games. Now within 4.5 of first place MIL. I expect them to go all in to improve their chances before Tuesday.
July 28, 2023 at 10:09 pm #229604Goldy, Gorman, Arenado 1-for-12 tonight. TV announcers calling it a great game…it was actually a terrible game offensively for our team. But, par for the course this year.
July 28, 2023 at 10:11 pm #229605Yeah, for Cub’s fans it was probably their best and most exciting game of the ’23 season.
July 28, 2023 at 10:23 pm #2296081TD, are you saying Chip Carey = Cubs fan? Just sayin’! He did seem pretty pepped up about that ending.
July 28, 2023 at 10:29 pm #229609No, I wouldn’t say that 4ev, but I think he’s a really good PBP guy who really likes baseball and for someone who really likes baseball it’d be hard not to be amped up after the way that game ended. I know I was. I actually like it when the Cubs are competitive only because I think it adds to the excitement of a Cardinals/Cubs series when both teams are playing for something. Unfortunately, the tables have been turned this season.
July 28, 2023 at 10:33 pm #229610That play by Tauchman in CF could be called the defensive version of a walk-off.
July 28, 2023 at 10:36 pm #229611Watched the last three innings on Gameday. Donivans ph double play seemed to be the killer. Thought he would do better. Box shows about half the team leaving runners in scoring position. With Goldy and Nado hitless tonight its just not happening. Must not be much interest in actually winning with all this trade talk ready to happen. Oh well-Go Cardinals- maybe win one tomorrow!
July 28, 2023 at 10:40 pm #229612CF’ers glove killed them tonight, Wooster.
July 28, 2023 at 10:42 pm #229613This year can’t end soon enough.
