I can’t see why Carlson is hitting 8th. If he’s an 8th hole hitter we don’t need him. Find out if he’s a player or not for crying out loud. Unless they have already made up their minds on that, which could be the case.

Carlson anywhere in the lineup is better than O’Neill, especially when they insist on O’Neill hitting 5th. I’d walk Arenado every time and take my chances with O’Neill. It’s about a 31% chance he’ll K, if it’s a RH pitcher even better odds, especially if he has an above average slider.

Pressure is what it’s all about. Pressure is what incites performance. If you can’t play under pressure, light some candles, take a hot bubble bath and engage in some aroma therapy…

He’s 20. I’m fine letting him get get comfortable before putting him in more of a “run production” spot. He’ll be there soon enough, but putting him in pressure spot could lead to regression in development, with that said vs a LH starter I’d consider hitting him 2nd or 5th between Arenado and Contreras, veteran on each side of him would help.

Why not? Its early for everyone, not just us. If their pitching can be ready, ours should be just as ready. If their hitters can be locked in, ours should be just as locked in.

You thought this pitching was going to be good? I didn’t and thought there was a good chance they’d disappoint. Being ready doesn’t matter if you stink. You deserve high points for optimism.

As for hitting, “it’s early for everyone.” Bingo. There is a lot of variance from the norm in hitting over 9 games. That’s just a fact. Why does Goldy start relatively slow in April? Why did Ken Reitz tear April up? I guess he only locked in for one month.

Whatever defense we get is beside the point right now.

We’re pretty far apart on this one. April games count 1 each too. Defense shouldn’t go in a slump. And it hasn’t. The Cards have chosen to go substandard at all three OF positions, so it’s about what you’d expect after watching these guys meander and gyrate just a little bit out there. Breaking in three guys in different OF positions at the same time? Doesn’t sound smart. To do it along with pitching that stinks? That’s terrible.

Run production’s important and I think Walker in the 2 slot will create run production. And yeah, he’s 20. I’d sure trade places with him. In so far as development, he’s past the development stage. The stage he’s performing on now is the Big Leagues. I think he’ll improve his performance in the Big Leagues while slotted in front of last season’s NL MVP winner. I think Walker has talent. I also think pressure won’t bother him. In fact, I think the talent will really come to life under pressure. It always does when it’s applied to outstanding players. Let him rip…

While the OF certainly hasn’t looked good, I don’t think it’s been what could be termed lousy. I think the situation is relative in the sense that we’re accustomed to seeing some consistently nice play in the OF. A couple of comments have pointed out that it should stabilize once The Nootz returns. I hope so, anyway.

Gorgeous evening at the ball yard. But I tell ya, Marquez really has it working. Everything on the ground. Could be a tough night if Matz let’s up at all.

…lots of Redbird fans here, which is typical.

I counted a 5 pitch half inning for Marquez. Don’t see many of those anymore.

Yeah Bikemike, quick 3 outs for Marquez. If you took a bite of your $20 hot dog that last half inning, you probably missed it…Haha!

Don’t know exactly why, but every time I see Blackmon step into the box I think of J.D. Blackfoot…

That run crossing HP wasn’t easy to watch.

Burly needs the O2 tank after that RBI triple.

Haha, it was so hard for Gorman to watch, he didn’t. You don’t often see MLBers fall for that little league trick.

Burly wishes an outfielder could’ve cut that one off!

COL’s doing a pretty nice nice job on the base paths tonight. These guys are being aggressive and forcing the Redbirds to execute which has yet to happen.

Yeah, Euro, there almost ought to be a scoring rule to negate that run being charged to Matz.

Donovan with a very good play diving to his right. The toss to Matz was also impressive as he had to put some underhand zip on it since he was so far away from the bag.

Cards need to manufacture a win here tonight.

Matz was very sloppy with his location this game. He’s getting yanked.

Trejo is killing us. Matz exits. Looking like a typical early 2023 Cardinal game. Just get our butts handed to us every night.

And as I say that, Carlson with a nice catch.

Good grief, Burleson getting a work out tonight. With the triple and all these hits he’s had to chase down, he’s gonna have sore legs tonight.

Stubby needs to stand on a box when Walker reaches 1B.

This is just an old fashioned whipping. Rockies knocking us around. Our club looks a couple of steps behind on everything. Not a lot of passion.

I’m aware that I’m now descending to splitting hairs, but I’m real weary of seeing the Cardinal manager walk out to the pitcher’s mound wearing a hoodie…I wish he’d walk out there wearing the uniform. The Cardinals not only have one of the best looking Big League jerseys in either league, but they also used to issue some nice looking jackets. At any rate, if he’s going to wear a hoodie out there, I wish he’d pull the thing up over his head when he walks out onto the field…

I think it is fair to say that we currently have the worst starting rotation in the majors, statistically speaking at least. They are just horrendous. Yes it is early but we aren’t just losing one run games. We are being demolished.
