Trivia
1. Porter (or did I need to think triples?)
2. Can’t get ’em all yet.
3. BerkmanApril 7, 2023 at 7:26 pm #215834I hadn’t checked the standings until the broadcast mentioned the Brewers were out to a 5-1 start. That’s pretty good. I also noticed the Tampa team has yet to lose at game at 6-0. I’d trade places with them.
April 7, 2023 at 7:35 pm #215836Wrong on all 3, Euro. At 0-3, you’re off to a worse start than the Cardinals, so I’ll throw in a couple of hints to bolster your rotation…
1. He’s someone reasonably obscure and he only appeared in 5 of the 7 games which makes the 9 hits a bit more outstanding than the other 2 guys.
2. Not all 7 of those future HOF’ers made an appearance in that ’82 WS, but all 7 were members of the 2 ’82 WS rosters.
3. He once fell from grace, but returned with a vengeance.
April 7, 2023 at 7:40 pm #215838I’d say that was a pretty nice play by that 2B’man.
April 7, 2023 at 7:41 pm #215839Dang it, 1td. No wonder, I wasn’t trying…..as in, if you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t tryin’. I don’t want Oli to publicly reprimand me for not trying, so ………
Wow, Donovan just made a great play to save a run, unless the Brewer runner on 2B would’ve lollygagged like O’Neill.
April 7, 2023 at 7:44 pm #215840Haha!…They’d better go full throttle with Counsell at the helm!
April 7, 2023 at 7:47 pm #215841That 3rd strike swinging from Woodruff to Walker for the K was a genuine Big League pitch.
April 7, 2023 at 8:04 pm #215843Man, our pitching is hard to watch.
April 7, 2023 at 8:05 pm #215844Man, our pitching is hard to watch.
The Brewers are seeing it pretty well.
April 7, 2023 at 8:10 pm #215845I will say Willie McGee on the hits.
Seven ‘Famers. Let’s see: Ozzie, Sutter and Hersog on our side. Molitor, Yount, Simmons and Fingers on their side.
That 2011 Series was actually a 7 gamer. Hmmm, who else had 9 hits. Maybe Albert?
April 7, 2023 at 8:15 pm #215846Woodruff plays hard ball with Goldschmidt and dominates. Man, he looked like ‘68 Gibson game one of the World Series in that match up.
April 7, 2023 at 8:15 pm #215847mike you read question #3 wrong. NLCS, not WS.
April 7, 2023 at 8:17 pm #215848They get a big hit on 0 and 2, and we hit into a double play on 2 and 0. Things just are not going St Louis’ way here in the early going.
April 7, 2023 at 8:18 pm #215849Too bad Donovan didn’t read Arenado’s hit sooner. He could’ve scored.
April 7, 2023 at 8:18 pm #215850Ah, thanks Euro. Yeah, Cardinals-Brewers; that makes sense. I will stick with the Albert guess.
April 7, 2023 at 8:19 pm #215851Albert doesn’t make sense to me because of the fall from grace hint. That should make it obvious, but my memory……
April 7, 2023 at 8:22 pm #215852Number 1 is wrong, Bikemike.
Number 2 is incorrect because Herzog wasn’t a player. However I messed up, Bikemike! There were in reality 8 future HOF’ers (All of them players) on those 2 rosters. I may have to surrender an oven mitt for that infraction…
Number 3 is correct, but that 2011 Cardinal/Brewers NLCS only went to 6 games. You still get the oven mitt, although not the special edition with the daisy and butterfly pattern…Haha!
April 7, 2023 at 8:25 pm #215853Oh yeah, Jim Kaat was on that Cardinal club. So there is another. Will have to think a little for number 8.
April 7, 2023 at 8:28 pm #215854I asked to name the 7 future HOF players on those 2 ’82 WS rosters. In reality, there were 8…For the Redbirds there was Ozzie Smith, Bruce Sutter and Jim Kaat. For the Brewers there was Robin Yount, Paul Moliter, Ted Simmons, Rollie Fingers and Don Sutton. At any rate, the oven mitt goes Bikemike and I can’t throw a strike when I really have to…
April 7, 2023 at 8:37 pm #215856Wow, nothing has been easy tonight. Hope the Redbirds can dig deep and turn this around.
April 7, 2023 at 8:38 pm #215857Dom if you will remember Tony was giving playing time to little Dunc. Ludwick, who was hitting over .300 and matching Albert in power said to a writer “what do I have to do to play every day?”
Tony started benching others to get that steroid bum more starts. It made me sick!
April 7, 2023 at 8:39 pm #215858I just thought of Don Sutton 1TD. Figured it was probably another veteran pitcher and was running through guys in my head and remembered Sutton being on that club late in his career. Accidentally posted it to the Cardinals Hall of Fame thread.
April 7, 2023 at 8:41 pm #215859Starting pitching a continues to be a disaster. Flaherty with 13 walks in 10 innings and will only go 5 probably….
They are better than this for sure but good grief, lol.
April 7, 2023 at 8:42 pm #215860Flaherty has now given up 2 earned runs in 10 innings for a 1.8 ERA. But what he’s doing is not sustainable. Six more walks today.
April 7, 2023 at 8:43 pm #215861Uh oh – think I deleted the Cardinals Hall of Fame thread! Sheesh – I thought I was deleting just my accidental post of the Don Sutton answer I posted there. Jeez – you would think to delete an entire thread a warning would come up like, “About to delete this thread – are you sure?”
