If there is anything that interests me less than the all-star game it’s a home run derby. Who is the champion at whacking BP balls out of the park? He must be so proud.
Would be cool if Albert jacked a couple dozen out of the yard. I think it is great he is there. You don’t get to do this stuff forever, so go for it while you still can. If they had a HRD in 1934, the Babe would have no doubt participated despite his best years behind him.
Some of the other 22 players, maybe not so much… (Also, IMO, Albert’s spot should be considered ceremonial and not the same as those who put up the 2022 results to get in. Then, it would be 3+1.)

It's officially official: Should the All-Star Game be tied after nine innings, the game will be settled via a Home Run Derby. Each manager will select three batters to participate, and each batter will get three swings. The team with the highest total after the three rounds wins.

I do not agree about the ceremonial spot. Its the All Star game not the All Current Stats game. Body of work is a legitimate consideration.
Pujols actually beat Schwarber in Round One of the Home Run Derby. Not that I care because I’m not watching it. But I thought I would post. He now faces the soon to be Cardinal in Juan Soto.
Our earlier stated 7-2 favorite to win the HRD(Home Ron Derby) is still alive and kicking. Go Albert! He’s the perfect age to win this thing. Next up is Juan Soto and then Rodriguez. How can he lose?

Love your prognostication, Rat. But could you imagine Goldy, Arenado, Soto, O’Neill, Gorman and Knizner, all in the same lineup. That just wouldn’t be fair for opposing pitchers to face.
Don’t have ESPN so did not watch the derby, but glad to hear that Albert did well.
I am good with putting an occasional future Hall of Famer on the roster. Stan was invited to play in ‘63 despite not having a stellar season. It’s a tradition, and the game is an exhibition so let’s have fun with it.
No way Soto becomes a Cardinal IMHO. It’s not the way they do business. Pitching help prior to the deadline is a different story, though.
We may not see him, Mud. I think he prefers his involvement with basketball in Puerto Rico vs being with his team. He probably should have retired at the end of 2022.
Alcantara comes on and Ks Stanton on three pitches. Man, I cringe watching him pitch. I get nightmares of seeing Steve Carlton winning Cy Young’s and shutting us down year after year. Now Sandy Ks his second straight!
Gonsolin comes on in the 4th and gives up two homeruns to Stanton and Buxton. 3-2 AL last of the 4th.
And the big advantage that the NL has in this ASG is the fact that Dusty Baker is managing the AL.

Got out on a bike ride and come back to see the AL is now in front 3-2. Stanton and Buxton go back-to-back.
The AL turned one of the sweetest DPs you will see just before Goldy’s jack. A behind the back flip behind second and a throw to first for a 4-6-3.
The American League wins 3-2. They have home field advantage in the World Series. No worries, with Soto added to our lineup we should be able to overcome. Unless it’s the Yankees then all bets are off.

Rats, home field rules for the Series changed several years ago. The team with the better regular season Win percentage gets home field now.
I don’t think they do that “home field” bit anymore. Think it goes to the team with the best record.
Ryan Helsley dialed it up to 103, so he was jacked up.
An enjoyable game and night of baseball. I think they did a good job showcasing the players and game. A very nice tribute to Jackie Robinson before the game as well.Alright, on to the post All Star season. Let’s hope this Cardinal club can have one of their legendary hot August – September runs and stow away a division title, then see what happens after that.
