Wainwright historically doesn’t do well at Riverfront Stadium. Hope he finally turns in a good performance and the Redbirds get the 2nd half started on a good note.

Now back to the important stuff……

Din-din today was a trip to the Amish restaurant north of town, out on the lake. Catfish fiddlers, mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, green beans, sweet tea, and some vanilla soft serve ice cream.

Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for this one tonight. Along with a couple of 7×50 Palma Real cigars. We watched the Giants/Dodgers game last night from Dodger Stadium. Plenty of late inning fireworks from both teams. Giants trailed 5-0 heading to the 9th but a solo dinger by Longoria and then a pinch-hit grand slam by Ruf tied the game. Betts three run homer in the last of the 8th was the difference in the game.

I mis-spoke above. The Giants trailed the Dodgers 5-0 heading to the 7th. That’s when Longoria and Ruf yanked a couple of dingers. Not the 9th like I said above. My 3rd error in a little over a week. Losing it, I guess.

A Donovan one out infield single, Nooty free pass and a passed ball sending runners to 2nd & 3rd has St. Louis thinking “runs runs runs” here in the top of the 2nd in a scoreless affair. Let’s stay with the action shall we?

Romine is caught looking for strike 3 on a call that the home plate ump had no choice but to flip a coin on…….Romine should have called “heads”.

Edman on 3-2 works the walk to load em up.

O’Neill grounds it…..past the 2nd baseman and out into right field for a base hit!…. Donovan will score with Nooty whistling around 3rd and he’ll score…..2-0 Good Guys. O’Neill’s ground ball was hit right where the 2nd baseman normally is positioned, but thanks to the shift that the Reds had in place, it resulted in two St. Louis runs.

Goldy fouls out to the 3rd baseman Drury to retire the side.

Ashcroft with an eye popping 53 pitches….. he’d fit right in with a few of our young hurlers.

After 5 stl outs, four by the K, O’Neill gives us an opposite field ball in play to plate two. Well done Tyler.

A Naquin wounded wobbling duck to left field scores 2 and this game is tied in the bottom of the 2nd 2-2.

Then Solano whacks a 2-run homer to left and Cincinnati now has us doubled up 4-2.

My 3rd error in a little over a week. Losing it, I guess.

Even Stan “The Man” swung and missed 3 times every now and then, Rat. The only thing you’re “losing” is a bunch of weight, thanks to your Amish restaurant, The famed “Gasthof”. I just have to try their catfish fiddlers one day, Rat.

    Top of 3

Arenado lines a base hit to center to get the ball rolling for the Cards.

Gorman strikes out swinging, Ashcraft’s 5th K victim on the young evening.

Carlson flies out to Senzel in relatively deep center field.

Donovan on 3-2 strikes out swinging.

Votto with a 2 out solo shot to left to propel Cincinnati’s advantage to 5-2. And that’s all they get as the sun sets on this 3rd inning in the Queen City.

    Top of 4.

Nooty chops a one-hopper down to Votto behind 1st and he’ll briefly take a pause and then quickly scadaddle on over to the bag ahead of a hustling Nooty to register the out.

Romine grounds it way wide of 1st where Votto gloves it and he’ll underhand his throw to Ashcraft at 1st base for out #2.

    Edman strikes out swinging.

    Top of 5.

O’Neill on 3-2 takes it low and he’ll trot on down to 1st base.

Goldy whacks it high and deep to left ….bombs away! Long gone for home run #21 and suddenly the Cardinals are only looking at a one run deficit.

Arenado on 3-1 grounds it routinely out to Farmer at short and he’ll gather it in and fire it on over to Votto at 1st for the out.

Gorman strikes out looking…..K #8 for Ashcraft…..but he’s also logged 102 pitches in this ballgame.

Carlson on 3-2 pokes a base hit to right and that will do it for Ashcraft.

Reds slightly threaten, but do not score in their half of inning #5 in a 5-4 Cincinnati ballgame.
