Mets get a two out two run single by McNeil and take a 5-3 lead after five. Goldschmidt his 6th homerun in the 3rd.
May 19, 2022 at 2:22 pm #185603Wittgren is just not getting it done. Our middle relief is very sketchy right now.
May 19, 2022 at 2:23 pm #185604The Cards got lucky last year that their “quantity over quality” gamble paid off. This year it’s pretty much a flop.
May 19, 2022 at 2:26 pm #185605Like to see Albert go yard today. Would be one nice thing.
May 19, 2022 at 2:30 pm #185606One rule I hate is how pitchers are given earned runs for batters they didn’t even have a chance to prevent. Hudson gets pulled after the single, then three batters later Wittgren allows the run to score (he allowed single-walk-single). There’s no way that run should be charged to Hudson.

ParticipantWhy was Wittgren used 3 days in a row?
May 19, 2022 at 2:47 pm #185608Just arrived home from the salt mines and it looks like we’re mounting a rally here in the top of the 7th. Edman(walked) at 3rd and Donovan (single) at 1st with 1 out and Bassitt is just leaving the game. Drew Smith the new reliever.
Goldy hits it high down the line in left….McNeil races over near the wall and takes a little hop and catches it….. Edman tags from 3rd and he’ll score, but they’re going to nail Donovan tagging from 1st to 2nd. Count the run, but the DP will end the inning.

Cards 4Great job by Willie & Stlcard25!
May 19, 2022 at 2:49 pm #185610Neil Andre Pallante pitching the 7th for St. Louis. With one out, Lindor grounds it into right field for a hit. Alonso drills it right back towards the mound and off Pallante’s chest….it trickles out near Edman who’ll pick it up and flip it to a streaking Neil Pallante, but it’s much too late. Neil Pallante is ok. McNeil lines right back and off Pallante’s leg….he quickly retrieves it and he’ll throw McNeil out at 1st with the runners each moving up a base…..and these Mets are using our Neil Pallante as a punching bag sort of speak. Has a pitcher ever been drilled 3 times in an inning?
Escobar flies out to center and no damage done here in the 7th…other than a couple bruises inflicted upon the Cardinal reliever.May 19, 2022 at 2:54 pm #185612At least he bullpen gets better when Flaherty returns. Looking sketchy at this point for sure. The scrap heap is only for the desperate. That doesn’t speak well of Mgmnt.
May 19, 2022 at 2:57 pm #185613Well through it all, we still have a chance.
May 19, 2022 at 3:03 pm #185614I thought Albert had one there.
May 19, 2022 at 3:06 pm #185615Top of 8. Drew Smith still pitching for NY.
Arenado pops out to Guillermo at 2nd.
Pez lines it over Smith’s head and out into center for a hit. It almost gave the appearance of Pez trying to hit the Met hurler with a batted ball, after two Met batters nailed the Cardinals pitcher in that fashion the previous inning. Don’t say this to Alonzo though as that silly clown will get all riled up.
Carlson flies out to left-center….a nice tumbling catch by McNeil….on the scale of 1-10, I’d give the catch a 7.5.
Albert flies out to very deep left….ouch, when that left Albert’s bat it sure as heck looked like a homer.

Cards 4May 19, 2022 at 3:10 pm #185616Genesis ( properly pronounced “Hen-a-sis” ) “Cabby” Cabrera on for the Cards in the 8th.
Davis strikes out swinging.
Guillorme on 3-2 trickles a little “excuse me” check swing dribbler out in front of the plate…Cabby pounces on it and he’ll successfully gun his man out at 1st base …nice play
Nido grounds out to 2nd.

STL 4May 19, 2022 at 3:22 pm #185617Top of 9. Edwin Diaz center stage for the Mets. Ok let’s hit these guys for 2 or 3 runs and make a winner out of both Cabby and our Redbirds…shall we?
Bader rolls a slow roller out towards 3rd where a charging Escobar barehands the ball, but he won’t have a prayer to get the speedy Bader as the throw to 1st is much too late…. infield single.
Bader swipes 2nd base…..the catcher’s throw ventured out into center field, but not to the degree of allowing Bader to snatch another base
Yadi grounds it smack dab right up the middle but unfortunately that’s exactly where the Mets had him played ….Yadi out at 1st as Bader moves on over to 3rd.
Edman strikes out looking on one that had the appearance of being a bit high….ouch that hurt!
Donovan walks on 4 straight balls.
Goldy ….come on Goldy….take this guy downtown could you? Grounds it to 3rd and this should end it…. Escobar boots it! Bader scores the tying run with Donovan motoring into 3rd. We got a gift….about 6 months early, but we’ll take it.
Arenado walks on 4 straight and that will load em up for Pez.
Pez strikes out looking, but the boys tied this ballgame up at 5.

Mets 5May 19, 2022 at 3:23 pm #185618Terrible strike call by umpire to ring up edman
May 19, 2022 at 3:27 pm #185619Goldy got lucky but that’s ok, game tied. Let’s keep going. Come on arenado
May 19, 2022 at 3:29 pm #185620Down to the last strike and a 3B error. Reminiscent of Arenado overthrowing 1B the last Mets series.
May 19, 2022 at 3:32 pm #185621Well couldnt get the big blow but we live on for at least a half inning more
May 19, 2022 at 3:37 pm #185623Bottom of 9. Ryan “The Flamethrower” Helsley on for the Cards.
Nimmo hits a hot one hopper right at Tommy E. and he’ll field it cleanly and make an accurate throw over to Goldy’s waiting mitt at 1st.
Canha grounds it over the bag at 3rd, but Arenado is right there to glove it and he slings a beauty of a throw over to 1st to get his man….sweet play, but that’s what this guy does routinely.
Lindor strikes out on one that Shaquille O’Neal couldn’t have reached….way wide of the plate

Mets 5May 19, 2022 at 3:50 pm #185624Wow…..I just lost my entire top of the 10th inning PBP…I hit the post button and it disappeared. Cards get a run.
May 19, 2022 at 3:50 pm #185625I think I would rather they kept helsley out there. Gallegos struggles with runners on.
May 19, 2022 at 3:53 pm #185626Well least gallegos didn’t make us wait long. Sketchy managing here.
May 19, 2022 at 3:54 pm #185627Bottom of 10. Gallegos on for the Cards.
Alonso ends the game with a towering 2 run bomb to left and that right there will install Ryan Helsley as this team’s new closer.
Final Score:
Mets 7
Cards 6May 19, 2022 at 3:55 pm #185628Marmol completely worked over as a manager there. Another gutting loss. This team is not good enough to give games away to good teams with bad decisions.
May 19, 2022 at 3:56 pm #185629bccran
ParticipantThis is a hard team to watch day after day.
