Is Donovan an actual SS? Or is he one of those guys that fills in here and there?
May 10, 2022 at 4:36 pm #1848701982 willie
ParticipantDonovan seems to be able to play anywhere except pitcher and catcher. Whether he is very good at all those positions, is a big guess. I didn’t think he looked that great at third when he played there.
May 10, 2022 at 4:40 pm #184872Is Donovan an actual SS?
At least as much as Edman is.
May 10, 2022 at 4:47 pm #184873Donovan is probably just keeping the seat warm until Sosa returns.
May 10, 2022 at 6:38 pm #184880Here’s my din-din report for today. I got me a two piece chicken dinner from the deli at the grocery. Thigh, leg, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, and some sweet corn. Some chocolate ice cream for dessert and then a cigar. Consumed all of this whilst the guys were downstairs in my basement putting in the sump pump.
I am going out on a limb tonight and calling this one a 7-1 Redbird triumph with Arenado finding the seats in left. Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for this one, and then later tonight we’ll be tuning in to the Cubs/Padres titanic struggle. My late night snack will be a stadium hot dog from the deli, a couple of Hershey chocolate bars with almonds dipped in peanut butter.

May 10, 2022 at 6:41 pm #184881I have ATTUverse cable in STL county. The game is not on the usual BSM channel 1748 BSMHD, it is on 1747 which is called BSMHe. I think the Blues game later bumpted the Cards off the usual channel.
May 10, 2022 at 6:45 pm #184882din din is a ham sandwich and broiled veggies with horseradish dipping sauce and a Busch beer.
May 10, 2022 at 6:47 pm #184883Robertson was hitting .225 at Memphis.
May 10, 2022 at 6:51 pm #184884OH GEEZ, THAT’S ANGEL HERNANDEZ BEHIND THE PLATE CALLING BALLS AND STRIKES!!!
stay tuned……..
May 10, 2022 at 6:57 pm #184886If Hernandez is behind the plate, I expect a lot of questionable balls and strikes calls.
May 10, 2022 at 6:59 pm #1848871982 willie
ParticipantYes it’s going to be a long night if Hernandez is calling the plate.

ParticipantNot looking good so far based on score. Seeing who we got pitching, I can see why. Hopefully we get an offensive explosion soon.
May 10, 2022 at 7:44 pm #184889Our hitting has been worse than our pitching.
May 10, 2022 at 7:48 pm #184890Tonight is exactly the situation where Jake Woodford should have started — if the manager were wise. We knew about Wainwright’s potential unavailability way back on Friday, and yet Woodford was used in a lengthy and largely pointless mop-up appearance in a game on Saturday.
We shoulda got Woodford tonight. It was just about the easiest managerial decision you could want. A relatively young starter with an MLB track record of solid performance, and in fact outstanding performance last year in September, and in Spring Training, and so far this season.
Instead we get a failed starter (who it must be said might be a pretty good reliever in the long run). I wish we knew for sure if Marmol is just unfathomably stupid when it comes to Woodford, or if this shift to the “worthless mop-up guy” role is an act of pure vindictiveness. It really can’t be overstated much, how loopy this is. Real managers do not do this.
For example, with all of LaRussa’s grudges and eccentricities, he never mis-utilized an established MLB pitcher like this, in all his years under the Arch. Can’t think of any Redbird managers who have, actually. Converting Kyle McClellan from reliever to starter was misguided, bound to fail — but at least the manager was giving the pitcher a chance, a challenge to exceed reasonable expectations.
What Marmol has done with Woodford borders on unethical. It’s certainly incompetent.
May 10, 2022 at 8:02 pm #184891Bob Reed bringing the heat with that post!
May 10, 2022 at 8:08 pm #184892I don’t know, Bob Reed, you are reading a lot into this. I would say that you have to assume that Marmol has some combination of inexperience and incompetence, until proven otherwise.
Now if he outmanages some senior managers, manipulating the matchups to steal a few wins, then you can say he’s a great, if sometimes vindictive manager. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen this flash of brilliance.
May 10, 2022 at 8:20 pm #184893Just tuned in to the game. Din-din was Mac and cheese with hamburger in it. Melted cheese too. Steamed brocolli tops in butter. Yum-yum. Down 3-0 over home runs? Mostly off Whitley pitches at center of zone. Other guys hitting the edges. Haven’t put 2 hits together yet. Hope DeJong gets straightened out at AAA.
May 10, 2022 at 8:25 pm #1848944-0 Orioles through five innings. No offense for the Cardinals. Cy Bradish is shutting them down.
So far Angel Hernandez has called a pretty good game.
May 10, 2022 at 8:42 pm #1848951982 willie
ParticipantFive runs is good pitching. I guess I have higher standards.
May 10, 2022 at 8:46 pm #1848961982 willie
ParticipantI totally agree with Bob. If he was new to the organization, you could just say he’s new, give him time to make mistakes and hope he learns. But he’s been here. So some of this is just bad management. Sometimes you have to call things how they are.
May 10, 2022 at 9:13 pm #184897Called out Whitley on homers given it was PACKY!!
May 10, 2022 at 9:44 pm #184903Close in the 9th but didn’t get the big hit from the heart of the order. Go Cardinals!
May 10, 2022 at 9:49 pm #1849041982 willie
ParticipantWell not a great night. Our pitching was below average and nobody had more than one hit. Our big spots 2-5 had two total hits. Not going to get it done. Being at home, we should be hitting better. May have to send a few more down.
May 10, 2022 at 10:04 pm #184907bccran
ParticipantThis team is bipolar.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWainwrights last start was Wednesday. His regular rest rotation turn would have came up on Monday, but it was an off day.
Mikolas could have started the BAL series on regular rest Tuesday, but management went with a bullpen start.
By choice they built in an extra days rest for the entire rotation. It’s a self-declaration on how poor the rotation is performing.
No urgency whatsoever by the FO. Lets patch it with Robertson instead of Gorman.
