Cobb carved up O’Neil and Yepez. Hicks doing the same to them. Was a nice opportunity wasted there.

This pitcher is tough but guys got to start laying off the inside stuff that has any spin. It’s mostly off the plate.

Hicks mows them down once again in succession here in the ……no! Bader and PDJ were right there for the lazy pop-up to short center field off the bat of Crawford, but they allow the ball to fall in and Crawford will have himself one of the most undeserved doubles in MLB history.

Luckily, Estrada grounds out to Edman to keep this affair a scoreless one as we mozzy along to the 5th.

Knizner takes two pitches he could hit to swing at a ball out of zone.

    Top of 5

Dickerson laces a base hit to center and now let’s get this guy!

Knizner strikes out swinging and Knizner looks terribly overmatched in his 2 plate appearances vs Cobb. You get the feeling that if Knizner were to face Cobb 100 times, Knizner might manage about 5 hits.

Bader ….thar she blows!!…long drive to left will not be caught and it’s gone for a 2 run blast ….2-0 Cards. Giant’s want a review thinking that a fan in the first row of the left field bleachers may have obstructed Bader’s homer……the review verdict is in and Bader’s homer will stand.

    PDJ whiffs.

Edman on 3-2 Tommy taps a little nubber about 2 inches in front of home plate where Bart quickly pounces on it and guns the speedy Redbird 2nd baseman out at 1st to retire the side.

Bader launches a mistake into the stands. Good job after trying to pull a pitch he should have went to right field. I don’t know why mlb hasn’t put cameras down the lengths of the fences to get better angles. Yea it’s not easy because of to he curves of the fence but with all the technology we have, should be doable.

Bader a nice 2 strike homer. Paulie down to .116. Maybe Cobb will wear out soon.

Oh oh….Hicks flirting with danger here in 5th as Gonzalez opens the frame with a single and then Vosler walks on 4 straight balls….the last one Hicks & Co. didn’t care for the call.

Bart then reaches via a fielder’s choice….Edman could possibly have had 2, but dropped the ball at 2nd base as he was taking the ball out of his mitt in preparation for his throw to 1st. Giants on the corners with just one out. Hicks getting the hook.

Genesis (pronounced “Hen-a-sis”) “Cabby” Cabrera your new Cardinal pitcher.

Slater bounces it back to Cabby who whirls around to look at 2nd, but then quickly decides to do the safe logical thing and get the out at 1st.

Ruf with a base hit to right field as the ball scoots thru the infield where the 2nd baseman would normally be positioned and we now have ourselves a tie ballgame.

    Flores grounds out.

Cabrera totally missed location on that pitch that gave up hit. I don’t know if good hitting or good luck. No matter how hard you throw, still need to hit the area you are throwing in at least.

Top of 6. Our ole’ pal John Brebbia on in relief for SF. Whew! kind of nice not seeing Cobb doing his thing out on the hill. But as we know, this Brebbia fellow isn’t a pushover either.

    Goldy strikes out looking.

Arenado whacks a hard drive to center, but Slater will venture back near the track to haul it in for the out.

    O’Neill whiffs

Genesis (pronounced “Hen-a-sis”) “Cabby” Cabrera, still pitching for St.Louis.

Pederson rips a liner to right center…..that Bader blazes on over to nab……nice running catch.

Crawford goes the other way and dumps a base hit into short left field.

Estrada pops out to Edman at 2nd.

Gonzalez …..and Cabby has Crawford hung out to dry between 1st & 2nd as the Giant shortstop ventured wayyy too far off 1st base….and Goldy will run him down and slap the tag on him to retire the side….sweet!

Top of 7. Hjelle on for SF. Tall drink of water…..6’11 inches worth. Making his ML debut. And for the record, I did not misspell Hjelle’s name….. don’t ask me what nationality that is….if I had to guess I’d say maybe a Turkisk-Netherlands blend with maybe a titch of Irish mingled in.

Pez grounds out to Vosler at 3rd on a very close call at 1st.

Dickerson whiffs….the 11th Cardinal to do so tonight.

Knizner grounds out to Crawford at short

Believe it or not, Genesis (pronounced “Hen-a-sis”) “Cabby” Cabrera is summoned yet once again to pitch another inning here in the 7th.

Gets the first batter then surrenders a base hit to right off the bat of Vosler…..and that will inspire Ollie Marmol to take a little stroll…. he’s on a bee-line straight in Cabby’s direction and that will be it for Cabby tonight.

Ryan Helsley your new Cards hurler

Bart strikes out on 3 consecutive blazers.

Slater ,…I hear that name “Slater” and I think of another California professional sports player with the same last name….the great Jackie Slater who played for many years down the coast with the LA Rams ….and I think with the St. Louis Rams too. Slater on 3-2 strikes out gazing and this Helsley fellow has certainly come into his own as a pitcher……and boy it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Someone is going to win this game 3-2. Let’s hope it is the visitors.

Edman barely missed a homer there.

Top of 8. Rogers on for SF.

Bader lofts a fly into short left center…..in races Ruf and he tumbles to the turf while catching the ball….and in no shape or form did he have to hit the turf on that catch….it was totally for show….and I think even the home crowd knew that was an act of showboating, as you could hear only two or three baseball unsavvy fans screaming for joy when Ruf made his catch, while the other 28,000 knew better.

PDJ hits a fly to right that Gonzalez races towards the line in hot pursuit of….slides to the turf and makes a nice catch….now that was a legitimate slide to the turf, unlike Ruf’s.

Edman drills a long one to right!…up up….and off the top of the wall and Tommy will check into 3rd with a standup triple….I thought that was a goner….shucks!

Goldy walks and Rogers is getting the hook.

    Doval on for SF

Arenado taps it back to Doval and he’ll toss her on over to Flores at 1st to retire the side.

Bottom of 8. Helsley still the main man for the Cards.

Ruf …. Helsley gets behind 3-0 then comes right back on the next 3 pitches to strike him out….caught looking on the 3rd strike.

Flores lines a wicked one hopper right at Edman at 2nd and he’ll make the short toss on over to Goldy at 1st for the out. When that hard hit ball left Flores’ bat, it looked like it was heading straight for Helsley’s head…..which made my life flash before my very eyes.

    Pederson strikes out!

Top of 9. Doval still toeing the SF rubber.

O’Neill strikes out and what a miserable offensive night Tyler has had….4 trips to the plate and 4 whiffs.

Pez smokes one down the 3rd base line that will kick up a gob of chalk…..down into the left field corner she goes and Pez has himself a double….nice! Donovan will pinch run for Pez.

Carlson lines a base hit to center!… Donovan is on his high horse and heading on home….the throw….safe! And Carlson will motor into 2nd on the throw. 3-2 Good Guys.

    Knizner strikes swinging.

Bader…..we need one more run. Grounds out to short.
