I told you folks to just sit back and relax, that the division title was in the bag. But everybody just kept panicking, worrying and expecting the worst. At least now you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the games for the next several days.

Oh, and did I mention that I bought a new 2023 Ford Mustang today? Well, ordered one, that is.

Go easy on ’em, Rat. It’s human nature to fear the worst.

Their 12-4 guy has a higher ERA than our guy, so as has recently been explained, our guy is better. Excellent. We need to run the table to prep for post season.

A lot of times when a team clinches the manager will give the starters the day off the next day but I hope Ollie rolls out the regular lineup again tonight. This game still matters to the Brewers and I am sure the Phillies and Padres have an interest in it also. If I am the Cardinals I would not want to play the Brewers in the wild card round. Ollie can give the starters a day off or two during the final six against the Pirates.

    There could be some hangovers today, though… I mean “flu-like symptoms”… 😉

The real question is whether Noot should take over interviewing. Natural talent is hard to hold down.

Hope to see emphasis on a left handed hitting lineup tonight, including Donovan, Edman, Carlson, Dickerson, and Burleson.

gscottar…I’m not sure exactly why, but I don’t like the idea of facing MIL in the first round either. That sentiment goes against logic as the Cardinals have a winning record vs. both MIL and SD this season. The Redbirds lost 4 of the 7 games vs. the Phillies this season and that was without Harper being up and running, so they should be the WC team to worry about facing in the first round.

Kinda early for me to start worrying about who we’ll be playing. The challenge as I see it is to keep the team playing enough to stay sharp. Resting guys is ok but don’t want them to go cold. Was interesting to see the bats light up after facing some tough pitching on the road trip. A welcome response for me.Glad it worked out that way. Din-din will be brisket, Spanish rice and green beans. Hurricanes gonna be here tomorrow.
    Go Cardinals!

It looks like Marmol is indeed the youngest manager to ever win a Big League division title. The Cardinals never fell below the .500 mark this season, but were just 5 games above sea level at 53-48 and 4 games in back of MIL on July 30th. From that date they gained traction and reeled off two winning streaks of 7 and 8 W’s in the span of 3 weeks to perch themselves atop the NLC by 5 games on Aug. 21st. Obviously, bolstering the 5-man at the deadline was the catalyst, but Marmol should get plenty consideration for NL MOY honors. There were several points during this season that things looked as though they could capsize and he should get credit for making certain the fellas kept showing up to play baseball until the right mix produced the desired results.

I just don’t want to give the Crew another shot at us. We just clinched the division on their home field so I am sure they would to love return the favor by winning two of three at Busch in the wild card round. With Burnes and Woodruff they always have a chance in a short series.

Meanwhile, the Phillies have lost 8 out of their last 11 games. They seem to be limping into the postseason. I will take my chances against them.

Nice! My wife got a 2021 Mustang convertible about six months ago. She really likes it.

Not the best lineup today, but that’s to be expected as we finish up. I was hoping for Albert in the lineup for the finale next Wednesday, but that seems a bit less likely now that he’s got 700.

Ollie should have started Woodford tonight, and set up a Woodford-Woodruff match up.

Tonight’s game thread baseball trivia questions have to do with former Cardinal quotes. For each of the three quotes, name the Redbird that is purported to have uttered the following lines. In addition to answering correctly, you’ll be afforded the opportunity to increase your baseball trivia WAR rating by providing what these guys were referring to when they coined these gems…

    1. “The reason I don’t talk, is because I talk too much.”

    2. “If I ain’t startin’ I ain’t departin.”

    3. “If it would have been a cheeseburger, he’d have caught it.”

Hint…Although he was born and reared in St. Louis, Yogi never played for the Cardinals…

Yeah Rats we live in Central Fla. The hurricanes supposed to tone down a bit before it reaches us about 4am so I was really glad we wrapped the Division up last night! That Mustang GT is a real classic. Probably a 5L V8? They’re going to smaller motors with turbo now so that car will be a good one to hold on to.
Looks like staggered LH-RH lineup tonight. Check out the Noot TV. Go Cardinals!

This turn by Quintana is vs. a team that’s fighting to stay alive for a post-season berth. If he features some nice work tonight, I’d have to say he makes a good case for a possible turn in the first round.
