Well, let’s see…The Great Pujols uncoiled for HR #699 while facing a LHP, which was the 200th time he’s tatered-up vs. a lefty. During the following inning, while facing a RHP, the great slugger uncoiled for HR #700 which was his 500th HR vs. a righty. Nice round numbers. I also could not help but to notice that HR #700 not only tallied him RBI #5 for his historic night at the plate, but also afforded his Cardinal team a 5 run lead. Maybe it’s time for the Cardinal organization to plan on retiring the legendary #5 on the last homestand and last regular season game of his career which, coincidentally, happens to fall on the 5th day of next month.
This is according to an article in today’s St. Louis, Post Dispatch…The baseball hit for Albert’s #699 HR was taken to MLB officials to be confirmed and authenticated by the fan who snagged it. He then returned it to the Cardinals to be given to Pujols. The baseball hit for HR #700 was also taken to MLB official representatives by the fan who snagged it. That baseball was also confirmed and authenticated. Then, according to those MLB officials, the fan who was lucky enough to possess the historic round piece of horsehide hit for #700, “walked.” What did Albert have to say about that? A direct quote from the great slugger…”Souvenirs are for fans.”
It’s all well and good that Pujols got his 700 homeruns. I never expected this when the season started. And around the All Star Break he was so pitiful he looked washed up.
Anyway, let’s get back to the really important stuff. The win last night keeps our fading hopes alive. Milwaukee won again, they are now on a roll. Unless we keep hitting homeruns we will soon be up to our arse in alligators. And no way can we sustain having four homer games. And you know the Dodgers will come out ready to play after being shutout last night. Unless Montgomery pitches a shutout – or a no-hitter – you can mark this one up in the Loss column. About our only hope is the floundering Reds finally do something to help us.

I think this is pretty important. You could use the term acceptable collateral damage. Of the 700 HR’s Albert has ripped in his storied career, 29 Big League teams have been victimized by a total of 697 of them. The Cardinals were only victimized by the remaining 3…I’d have to say we were lucky to have had him on our side for all those years.

Gonna try to stay up for tonight’s game as I missed last night. Keep winning and no worries about those other guys. Hitting on all cylinders last night but remember…they didn’t really need to win. Let’s just focus and play well.

I’ve been rooting for the Brewers for about three weeks, because they are the best team for us to face, and I don’t root for teams with unlimited money like the Padres. So you can blame me that the Brewers haven’t faded yet.
I’d almost rather MIL sneak in than SD after Soto’s routine the other night. Before they were required to actually play some baseball games, all the professional experts had SD slated as a genuine nemesis to not only the Dodgers, but the rest of the NL. Sometimes these guys forget that the games are played to decide who’s the best.
What a terrific evening of baseball it was. Had Aaron Judge cooperated and hit #61 it would go down as one of the most historic dates in MLB history.
But Judge was good enough to allow the old guy the spotlight all to himself.
Nice numerology and symmetry presented by 1TD. Albert has 21 homers this year. I would have never expected that, and am guessing the over/under coming in to the year was around a dozen.
Oh, one more thing to add to the numbers. On the night Pujols cranked out number 700, Alec Burleson connected for #1. Pretty cool thing for Burleson to tell the grandkids someday, whether his career takes off, or he ends up a journeyman.
For me, it all started with Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Billy Williams and Willie McCovey. Then, a little later on, some of the names were Schmidt, Garvey, Parker and Winfield, and most recently guys like Berkman, Helton, Beltran and Bagwell. I’m sure there were others, but all these names murdered Redbird pitching and gave me a sinking feeling in the gut along with the thought of, “why did it have to be this guy,” as they stepped into the box with a game on the line while opposing my favorite team. When Albert Pujols came along, I exacted a bit of revenge. Now, all the fans of the opposition would get a genuine double dosage of all the nightmares and misery I was subjected to all those years in the form of the greatest right-handed hitter I’ve ever witnessed.
Was thinking about this the other day – you could field a darn good team of ex-Cardinals draftees or players. It is similar to the 1970s where former Cardinals were all over the place doing great things. The difference is this Cardinal team is real good, whereas those ‘70s teams were not.
Would this lineup be better than ours, if all were healthy? It would certainly be a lot less payroll to shell out:

BikeMike…I’d say your conclusion is the crux of the bisquit, so to speak, as to the reason the Cardinals continue to be the premier team in the NL. Not too long ago, you could also make a case for the Dodgers being similarly proficient along those same lines.
Perhaps now the talking heads in the booth can ease up on the blathering about Albert Pujols and focus on the end of the 2022 season.
CardFrance…They won’t ease up, and neither will Albert. After collecting 5 RBI’s in last night’s ballgame which gives him a total of 2208 RBI’s for his career, Pujols is now only 6 RBI’s behind the Bambino for second place on the all-time RBI list. He has 10 more games to do it and I’m not quite dumb enough to count him out.
Maybe we pummel Kershaw tonight. Like 8-2 or so.
Do we see 700bert vs the lefty or does he get the night off?
The fawning over Albert Pujols is just fine with me. These type of players do not come around too often, and when they do chances are they will be with another club. To have one of the all-time greats on our team is a blessing.
It won’t be long before his days as a player are in the rear view mirror, so I want to savor all of his time in a uniform.
FYI here……I made my first pot of chili for the upcoming cool/cold season a little while ago. It wasn’t din-din as the chili is usually reserved for the late night snack. A bowl or two whilst I watch a late game from the west coast. Or watch Cannon, or Emergency, or Barnaby Jones, etc, etc.
The game starts at 9:10 our time so this means I will be able to watch Charles Stanley tonight at 7:00 my time. Then finish putting up the laundry, then jump in the tub, then warm up the chili, have a bowl or two, have a couple of cigars, all whilst sitting on the couch with Whitey Herdog watching the Cards and Doyers go at it. Oh, and Whitey will get her Cesar’s treat as well!

Well I guess we can all put our guess in to see where Albert ends up on homerun and rbi chart. I could see Albert getting sone time off if we clinch and can’t move up so could be hard. I’m gonna say since we play the pirates 6 games, he gets to 705, I’d like to see 707 just for good effect. I also see him catching the babe in rbis as well but hard to give a number but I’ll say he passes it by 5. Seems reasonable being I’m giving him 5 more homers. Far as talking about pujols. Love talking about one of the greatest Cardinals ever.

Fresh broccoli and cauliflower with parmesan garlic cream sauce. A small salad of romaine with oil and red wine vinegar. Only one piece of apple pie tonight, but two scoops of ice cream on it.
Well here we go – DeJong in the lineup. I will put the over under on strikeouts for Paul at 2. Anyone want to go one way or the other on that?
My first 2023 prediction is that around this time next year, actually probably around mid June, we will be seeing yet another former Cardinal having an all star season, and that will be Edmundo Sosa.
I will be checking out the Wyoming-BYU game during our contest. Growing up in Wyoming and with the Cowboys off to a 3-1 start, they will be tested in Provo against an old rival.
